Leadership Report

Written by Joe Doyle

Dear Saltwater Families,

Welcome Back to Term Four

We trust that you had a restful break, enjoying some much-needed relaxation and special moments with family. As we step into Term Four, we also welcome the warmer days of spring, bringing with them a sense of renewal and energy. Whether you spent time outdoors soaking up the sunshine or simply recharging at home, we hope you're feeling refreshed and ready for the exciting term ahead. We're thrilled to have you back and look forward to a fantastic final term!

Sun Smart policy - Hats

As we embrace the warmer weather, we kindly remind you of our commitment to sun safety. All students are required to wear hats when playing outside or during outdoor activities. This simple yet essential measure helps protect our children from harmful sun exposure and ensures a safe and enjoyable outdoor experience. Please ensure your child comes to school with a hat every single day this term.

We would like to remind you that the school provides sunscreen for students to use during outdoor activities. However, you are welcome to supply your own sunscreen for your child/ren to use while at school. Please ensure that any sunscreen sent is clearly labelled with your child's name. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our students sun-safe!

Planning for 2026 and Class Formations

The leadership team is preparing for 2026, including class structures and staffing. If your child will not be attending Saltwater P-9 College next year, please notify us as soon as possible via email at:

saltwater.p9.co@education.vic.gov.au.

Class formation is a detailed process that considers student numbers, gender balance, academic abilities, behaviour, and student needs. Early this term (from Monday 6th October), students will nominate friendship groups or peers they work well with, and we will aim to place each student with at least one nominated friend.

Parents may discuss friendship choices with their children and submit any educational considerations (not teacher requests) by Monday 27th October 2025. While every effort is made to honour peer nominations, individual preferences can’t always be guaranteed in such a large school. We are also unable to honour requests for particular timetables. Thank you for your understanding.

Year 6 PYP Exhibition - Taking Action for Positive Change

This week, our Year 6 students proudly showcased their PYP Exhibition, celebrating their learning journey and demonstrating how young people can take meaningful action to create positive change in our world.

Throughout the term, students explored a range of real-world issues and transformed their learning into purposeful action. Their initiatives included raising funds for charities, collecting second-hand sports equipment, running clothing drives, and gathering bottle caps to raise awareness about ocean pollution, just a few examples of the thoughtful projects they developed.

The exhibition was held in the school gym, which was beautifully set up to display each group’s inquiry and action. The event attracted a large number of attendees, including families, staff, community members, and local politicians, all showing their support and admiration for the students’ efforts.

Around the school, inspiring posters created by the students highlighted their key messages of hope, action, and sustainability, reminding us all of the power of young voices to make a difference!
