Year Three

Dear Grade 3 Families,
Welcome back to our final term of the year! We hope everyone had a restful break and is ready for a fun and productive Term 4. This term is packed with exciting learning opportunities and events to finish off the year with a bang!
Reading:
In reading, students have explored a range of non-fiction texts to learn about simple machines in our environment. They practised identifying key facts, used text features like headings and diagrams, and expanded their scientific vocabulary. Alongside our focus on information texts, we also read a class novel, where students analysed the characters, explored their personal traits, and discussed how they changed and grew throughout the story. These activities helped students strengthen both their comprehension and critical thinking skills.
Writing:
In Writing, students focused on developing their persuasive writing skills. They planned, drafted, and published persuasive letters and advertisements aimed at convincing an audience that their playground design was the best. As part of this project, students considered their target audience, used strong persuasive language, and structured their writing with clear arguments and supporting reasons. They also worked on editing and improving their writing for clarity and impact.
Numeracy:
In Numeracy, students applied their measurement skills, particularly in measuring length, to help design and construct model playgrounds using recycled materials. This hands-on project allowed them to practise accurate measuring, comparing units, and applying their learning to a real-world task. In addition to measurement, students also explored fractions of shapes and collections, developing their understanding of equal parts, and recognising and representing fractions in different ways. These learning experiences supported both their practical maths skills and their ability to apply mathematical thinking in creative contexts.
Unit of Inquiry
Next week, students will begin exploring our new Unit of Inquiry under the Transdisciplinary Theme 'Sharing the Planet', with the Central Idea: 'Components of ecosystems are interdependent'. Students will investigate how living and non-living elements of ecosystems rely on each other to survive. As well as food chains, habitats, and the impact of environmental changes on animal and plant life.
To support and enrich this learning, we are looking forward to our upcoming zoo excursion, where students will have the opportunity to observe animals in environments designed to reflect their natural habitats and consider the role each organism plays within its ecosystem.
🦁 Zoo Excursion Dates:
Monday, 17th November (Group A)
Thursday, 20th November (Group B)
Please provide permission and make payments on Xuno by Wednesday 5th of November.
