Melbourne Cup - Bridgewater

Last Tuesday, we were invited to Bridgewater Recreation Reserve to witness the Melbourne Cup and take part in different activities. The F-4 students took part in a hobby horse race against students from other schools. I think there were a few out-of-control horses in the race that went off course to gain the lead. The day finished off with the Grade 5/6  1200-meter Memsie Handicap footrace. A massive thank you to the Loddon Shire for providing the students with some Ice Cream to celebrate. The students were very excited.

3-6 Sustainability Excursion

Senior students had such a fun day at the Hope and Action Sustainability Summit at the Graden for the Future in White Hills, Bendigo last Wednesday. The children watched a very entertaining performance from Bozone Layer, learnt about energy efficient travel with the City of Greater Bendigo, gained an insight into the work of the Epsom Primary School Green Magpies around sustainability in schools and then engaged in a session with the North Central Catchment Management Authority around wastewater and protecting our waterways.

"My favourite activity was re-enacting the waste water process and crawling through the tunnel to show how the water moves through the pipes. I learnt how things like grass clippings and chemicals can harm our waterways." - Lucy

"I found Epsom PS very inspirational and I want to start our own sustainability programs at our school- starting with school guinea pigs!"- Edmund

"I like the idea of every classroom table having their own mini desktop bins so we don't have to spend our time at the big bin sharpening our pencils. Mini desktop bins would also mean less waste in the classroom and we could have scrap buckets for the chooks too." - Jordan

Classroom Learning Years 3-6

Maths

3/4 -The students are learning to read the hours and minutes on both analogue and digital clocks. Using a real clock, the students are seeing how all the parts, including the movement of the hands, come together to give time.

5/6- The students are learning to add, subtract, multiply and divide decimal numbers. This is building on their knowledge of decimals covered in Term Two.

Literacy

3/4 Charlotte’s Web- The students are thoroughly enjoying this classic story by EB White. Hopefully, they can finish it by the end of the term.

5/6 Tom Appleby, Convict Boy by Jackie French. After reading this amazing tale of hardship and survival, the children are in the final chapters of this compelling story. They are eagerly awaiting to see how the main character, Tom, lives out his life after being freed as a convict.

Whole School Physical Education

This term, students have been learning about the importance of working collaboratively as a team and working through the motto "it's just a game." Students have been focusing on developing their resilience throughout different netball-based activities and understanding that we can look after ourselves in different ways when activities get too hard for us.
