LSO APPRECIATION WEEK

This week, we took the opportunity to thank our LSO staff for the tireless work they do in the classroom. Not only does each LSO staff member support our teachers with the day to day running of the classroom. More importantly, they support our students with additional needs within our school to ensure their success in and outside of the classroom.

We celebrated with a wonderful morning tea on Monday to share our thanks and appreciation.

Father’s Day Reflection

Last Friday, we were blessed to celebrate Father’s Day together as a community. The morning began with a hearty breakfast, where students and their dads, grandfathers, and special friends gathered to share a meal and enjoy each other’s company. Thank you to our Parents and Friends members Ally and Suzi, along with the staff, for putting on a beautiful breakfast. This was followed by a beautiful Father’s Day Liturgy, where our students led us in prayer, song, and reflection, giving thanks for the important men in our lives and the many ways they love, guide, and support us.

To finish the celebration, our students had the opportunity to take part in a special excursion to The Fat Butchers. Under the guidance of Deb and Rick, the children participated in a hands-on masterclass in creating brisket burgers. This was a highlight for many, as it gave our students a chance to learn new skills, explore the process of preparing food, whilst enjoying a behind-the-scenes look at how burgers are made from animal to shopfront.

It was a wonderful day that truly captured the spirit of Father’s Day – gratitude, community, and togetherness. We thank everyone who joined us for making the occasion so special and extend our appreciation to Deb and the team at The Fat Butchers for welcoming our students and creating such a memorable experience.

The chickens are laying!

Our chickens have been laying well lately, providing us with a steady supply of fresh eggs each day. The children love checking the nesting boxes and collecting what has been laid, and it’s always a joy to see their excitement when there are more than expected. It’s a simple but special reminder of the benefits of caring for animals and learning about where our food comes from.

During the first two weeks of Term 4, we will transition to our summer uniforms. A reminder that children have sports on Tuesday - this is the only two day that students should be in sports uniform.

Hats Reminder

A reminder that all students should be wearing a hat by now for recess, lunch and any outdoor activity.  The compulsory wearing of hats is part of our SunSmart Policy which can be accessed on our school website. If students do not have a hat, they will be asked not to partake in some activities and/or play in the undercover area near the bag boxes. Please ensure that all hats are named clearly and encourage your child to be responsible for their own hat by putting it in their bag when not wearing it.

Sun Smart

The UV is well and truly on the rise (even if the temperature isn’t). It is important that our school community protects itself and is sun smart. Regardless of the weather, remember to SLIP, SLOP, SLAP, SEEK and SLIDE whenever UV levels reach three or more.

  • To help create a barrier between your skin and the sun's UV, SLIP on clothing that covers as much skin as possible.
  • For any skin you can't cover with clothing, SLOP on SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen. Apply 20 minutes before going outside and reapply every two hours. Students are advised to bring their own sunscreen to school and apply it to themselves whenever necessary.
  • Protect the delicate areas of the head and face and SLAP on a sun protective hat. Make sure it has a wide brim that provides good shade to all areas. Caps do not provide enough UV protection so are not a suitable alternative.
  • Consider built, natural and temporary UV protection and encourage children to SEEK shade whenever possible. Set up activities in shaded areas.
  • If appropriate for your situation, SLIDE on wrap-around sunglasses labelled AS1067 to help protect eyes from UV rays.

Footy Tipping

We would like to thank you for participating in our Tipping Competition for 2025. We hope it created some interest in the footy season, along with some friendly rivalry. All up, $716 was raised, these funds raised by the competition will go towards valuable resources for our students. Thanks again and all the best for the finals season. Here’s hoping your team has a win.

Ask R U OK? Any Day because life happens every day.

A lot can happen in a year, a month, a week.  Whether it’s your friend, family member, colleague, partner, or teammate, the people you care about go through life’s ups and downs every day. And they’re not alone, with 72% of Australians reporting elevated levels of distress.

Regular, meaningful conversations with the people close to you can help prevent small things from becoming big things. By checking in regularly, you build trust and normalise talking about what’s really going on, so when the people in your world find themselves struggling, they know you’re someone they can talk to.

So don't wait for R U OK? Day on September 11th,  Ask R U OK? Any Day of the year because a conversation could change a life.

School Holiday Program - CLICK HERE TO BOOK

We would like to thank Tim Watts from Rotary, who kindly visited St Mary’s this week to donate a special book to our school library. The book was written by his daughter Sarah Watts and tells the story of a character, Milles, who lives with epilepsy. This generous donation will not only enrich our library collection but also help our students build empathy, understanding, and awareness of the challenges faced by people with epilepsy. It’s a wonderful resource to support conversations about inclusion and celebrating differences.
