Year 9 Looks to the Future

Year 9 Outdoor Education Careers Expo Workshop – Werribee River Association
Our Year 9 Outdoor Education elective students recently took part in an exciting Careers Expo Workshop hosted by the Werribee River Association. The full-day program gave students the chance to connect with environmental experts and explore a range of careers focused on sustainability, conservation, and ecological science.
Throughout the day, students engaged in a series of hands-on conservation activities designed to make a real difference to our local environment. Working in teams, students built ring-tail possum nesting boxes to help protect native wildlife, and constructed bee hotels to provide safe nesting sites for native solitary bees—an important step in supporting local pollination and biodiversity.
Students also had the opportunity to inspect fungi specimens under microscopes, learning about the vital role fungi play in maintaining healthy ecosystems. Guest speakers, including park rangers, environmental scientists, and conservation specialists, shared their experiences and inspired students to consider future pathways in environmental science, outdoor education, and community sustainability projects.
The workshop not only deepened students’ understanding of our natural environment but also encouraged them to think critically about how they can contribute to a more sustainable future.
A huge thank you to the Werribee River Association for hosting such a meaningful experience, and to our Year 9 students for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and commitment to environmental stewardship.
