Camp
It’s hard to believe camp is only a week, plus school holidays, away! During Circle Time, we’ve been building excitement and helping students settle any nerves. There’s plenty of anticipation for activities such as surfing, snorkelling, and the challenge of learning Gaga Ball - not to mention camp food. Conversations have been facilitated by exploring the Camp Handbook, available on your child’s SeeSaw, which includes the all-important packing list. We are looking forward to an unforgettable experience together.
Art Show Preparations
Over the last few weeks, students have been busy preparing for the upcoming Art Show. Their focus has been on creating models of ancient architecture from the Maya, Aztec, or Inca civilisations. The creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration on display has been fantastic to witness. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and can’t wait for families to see their work. Please mark your calendars for Friday, October 17, when the Art Show will officially open.
Homework
It has been wonderful to see so many students sustaining their homework routines, as well as others rejuvenating their efforts or finding new strategies to commit to it. This week’s Literacy homework task links to Spanish, with students asked to write a balanced letter of recommendation to a friend about a chosen learning app. Students are also expected to practise maths fluency through Times Tables Rockstars or Facts on Fuego sheets. Each homework task is designed for students to work on it for about 50 minutes per week (roughly 20 minutes per school day). New tasks are distributed and posted on SeeSaw every Friday, and students should bring their books to school to record the new tasks.
Spanish Literacy
We have enjoyed seeing their creativity as they think up and design their own apps, while writing persuasive texts and describing what they are for, what they are and what they do. The entrepreneurs of the future are here to stay. Along with their ideas, they have added more verbs, adjectives, conjunctions and expressions to their vocabulary to create texts full of imagination and great ideas. We can't wait for you to see them during next week's Open Classroom!
English Literacy
Year 5/6 students have been continuing to engage deeply with our class text 'Rivet Boy'. Students have been challenging themselves to identify their own textual themes to analyse, with some interesting ideas forming about power, injustice and hope. Our persuasive writing unit is wrapping up. We are very impressed with the quality of writing that is being produced about the topic of child labour. Next term, we will be focusing on the narrative genre, and we are excited to see some creative and unique stories come to life!
Mathematics
Last week, the Grade 56 students explored fractions, the LCM of unrelated denominators, common fraction percentage representation, and percentages of amounts, and began diving into probability and data. In Spanish, they conducted probability experiments and then recorded their outcomes. They have started learning about data in English. These engaging activities helped reinforce their understanding of converting fractions into percentages and interpreting experimental probability results. By combining practical experiments with bilingual data recording, students are building both their math and language skills in a fun, integrated way.
