This term, our Years 1 and 2 students have been visiting Jean Ross House, to spend time with the elderly residents. The students shared songs, artwork and stories, filling the room with smiles and laughter.
The residents were delighted to welcome the students and many enjoyed chatting with them about school, family and favourite pastimes. The visit gave students the chance to show kindness and respect while learning from the wisdom and experiences of older generations.
Both students and residents agreed it was a heart-warming experience. The children left with a deeper appreciation for caring for others and the residents expressed their joy at having young visitors brighten their day.
These special visits reminded everyone how powerful simple acts of connection and friendship can be.
Year 9 History have been enjoying their intergenerational History lessons with residents at Jean Ross House. Students and residents have participated in various activities, including: WWII themed Pictionary, musical trivia, documenting first hand recounts and historical source analysis.
Most recently students worked with residents to purposefully select items to pack in a hypothetical rucksack for an Australian WWII soldier fighting on the Kokoda Trail.

For the past few weeks, Year 8 have explored the mathematical skills of scales and ratios by applying ratios to resize everyday objects into accurate 3D models. Each student chose a 3D object they found either in their homes or in the world to either upsize or downsize using precise measurements and ratio calculations. For example, one student chose to upscale a pencil to the size of a baseball bat and another downscaled one of the twin towers to a height taller than a desk.
Students began by measuring their chosen object in width, height and length and establishing what scale factor they were going to use. Using this ratio, students were able to calculate the new measurements and construct their new 3D model that would be able to reflect their original version. Students were also asked to reflect on their project and respond with their own opinions, and share any assistance they received during the project. This process helped students gain a greater idea of applying common skills like multiplication and division to better understand how to maintain proportions when scaling.
Through this assignment, students learned how scaling can affect the size and shape of 3D objects. It also showed students how scale factors and ratios can be used in the real world in areas like engineering, architecture and design. Overall, the assignment helped strengthen students' understanding and idea of scale, proportion and mathematical thinking.
Last week, our Year 5 CRU student leaders travelled to Shellharbour Anglican College to meet with other student leaders from Christian schools across the region. Together, they participated in CRU FIT, a leadership training day designed to encourage and equip students as they serve in their own school CRU groups.
This year’s theme was drawn from 1 Peter 1:16: “Be holy, because I am holy.” Students explored what it means to grow in personal holiness and how this shapes the way they lead and love others in their CRU groups. The program included both teaching and interactive activities, helping students see that God calls His people to holiness, yet we cannot achieve this on our own. Through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, we are forgiven and made holy, empowered to live for Him.
A highlight of the day was the HOLYmpics—a series of fun challenges that illustrated the biblical foundation of holiness. The games brought lots of laughter and teamwork, while also prompting meaningful reflection about the difference Jesus makes in our lives.
'We had so much fun making new friends, playing fun games and learned about fun ways to share more about God.' - Addie
'We learned that we can’t get rid of our own sins without God' - Theo
The day was also a valuable opportunity for students to connect with peers from other schools, share ideas, and be encouraged in their faith and leadership.
'We had so much fun at FIT. The games were amazing and we loved the food that you provided to our school students. The staff were amazing as well, and we thank you so much for inviting us to join you. We learnt so much, thank you' 🙏- Lachlan
We are thankful for the way CRU FIT is shaping our student leaders to be both bold and humble as they serve others. We look forward to seeing the impact of this training as they continue to lead their CRU groups with love, grace, and faithfulness.
On Friday 30 August, ten of our Secondary students took on the challenge of the 2025 CORC ACT Schools Mountain Bike Championships. The event was a huge display of endurance and teamwork, with impressive statistics to match.
Across the day, riders collectively clocked up 1,361 laps, totalling an incredible 8,220 kilometres. To put that in perspective - that’s far enough to reach Hawaii or cross to the opposite side of Antarctica! What felt like four hours in the saddle was, combined, a remarkable 568 hours of riding, averaging a speed of 14.6 km/h.
The event brought together 467 riders from 36 schools, forming 139 teams. Riders and their support crews travelled from across NSW and the ACT, including the South Coast, Central Coast, Orange, and the host region. Notably, 11% of the field were female riders, adding to the inclusive spirit of the championships.
Our school’s teams produced excellent results: Junior Team (Archie, Archer & Will) finished 51st, Senior Team (Toby, Josh T, Simeon & Levi) secured 31st, College Team (Ned, Eli & Ethan) narrowly missed the podium, placing 4th after a small setback earlier in the day.
Thank you to Mr Broadbent and Mr Tallon who supported our teams on the day. Congratulations to all our riders for their determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
On Tuesday September 9th, Year 10 Geography visited Currarong.
Accompanied by Mrs Rebel, Mrs. Edwards, and Mr. O, the students explored Currarong Beach, and Dolphin Reserve. The focus of the day was to observe and analyse the management strategies employed to balance human activities with environmental conservation efforts in this unique coastal area. The students had the opportunity to observe first-hand how natural processes interact with human influences, offering a practical perspective on what they have been studying in class.
Some of the highlights of the day were the beautiful weather, exploring in and around the rock pools, spending time with each other at the park and hot chips for lunch. Thanks to Jayden from the maintenance team for picking up lunch for us!
If you are going to write a whole book in a day - with illustrations - you are going to need a team! Yesterday teams of students worked together to create books for the Kid's Cancer competition "Write a Book in a Day". This competition ticks so many boxes: it stretches the students in their imaginative writing, it develops their team skills, it raises money for cancer research and it shows support for children undergoing cancer treatment.
Teams from Year 7 - Year 9 had 12 hours to produce a book from the parameters given by the competition organisers. Some were very challenging. Our Year 9 team had to create a story about a busker, an interior designer and a wolf that was set in a tunnel, with the characters being faced with the problem of failing a test. How to work all of that into a book? It took almost the whole 12 hours, but they did it.
A big congratulations to all the students who pushed themselves to concentrate and work as a team through a really long day to produce books that will be read and enjoyed by children with cancer in hospitals. To date the teams have raised $3,600. Well done especially to The Bookworms who have raised over $1000!
