Grade 6 News

Aladdin Special

What a week it's been - Congratulations to everyone involved in our Production of Aladdin Jr. It was such an impressive show and we hope you all got as much enjoyment from watching it as we did!

Learning in Action

Literacy

Grade 6 students have been completing an Author Study unit about Robert Hoge, the author of Ugly. We have been looking at how the autobiography is written, and students have been developing a deeper understanding of the characters by observing multiple perspectives of different events that occurred within Robert Hoge's life.

We have also been developing an understanding of different text structures as writers. This includes writing from multiple perspectives, circular stories and using foreshadowing - keep and eye out for our Grade 2 Scrapbooking piece, which will be written from multiple perspectives.

Maths

Grade 6 students in Maths have been working on their Fractions, Decimals and Percentage Goals. If students would like to continue practicing these at home, they can find a grid of activities on their Google Classroom.

Students have been applying their knowledge of Financial Maths through completing a Taco Truck Investigation. Students were engaged in the task by designing a truck, a catchy name and a slogan for their business. Some included:

Loaderd Tacos - Loader Taco in Ya

Tacolicious Tacos - Tacolicious Super Delicious

Taco Bout The Best - Taco Tuesday, Today, Tomorrow and Everyday!

Taco Bull - Taco Bout Bulls.

Taco Rex - Flavours as big as an asteroid

We then created menu's that included a range of delicious taco's, desserts and drinks. Students then collected orders from our peers and calculated their total cost. This was a fantastic investigation that saw students engaged, using their creativity and applying their knowledge to real life concepts.

Inquiry

This term, the Senior School students are focusing on thinking globally and learning about social justice, with the ultimate goal of making a difference in the world. Below are our goals for students to know and understand:

  • Our needs and wants are unlimited but the resources available to satisfy these wants are limited.
  • In our world there are some people who have more than they need, some people who have enough, and others who do not have enough resources to meet their needs.
  • There are people across the world, within Australia, and in our community who cannot access what they need to maintain their wellbeing and safety.
  • We all have a responsibility to contribute to a more ‘equitable’ world where the dignity of every person is recognised

These goals will lead students to develop an entrepreneurial spirit, and design a Market Day stall with the aim of raising money and awareness to make a difference in the world.

Sport

This term we have many sporting events taking place. Below you can find the list of all the events coming up.

Wednesday 1st November - Knox Rugby League Gala Day

Thursday 9th November - Boys Netball

Thursday 16th November - Billy Slater Festival of League Rugby day

Please ensure you keep checking compass for any details about the events.

We want to wish all of our teams and individual students competing at these events the very best of luck. Again, a big THANK YOU to Mr. Thomas who has done a wonderful job with organising all of these events for our students.

Scrapbooking

If any parents are able to assist with Scrapbooking, please email Mrs Parkinson ASAP if you haven't already. Below are the dates that we will be completing our Scrapbooking at school.
