Year 12 Food Studies Students Explored Sustainable Practices at Caldermeade Farm.

As the academic year approached its conclusion, our enthusiastic VCE Food Studies students had the privilege of embarking on an educational journey to Caldermeade Farm. This outing provided them with valuable insights into environmentally sustainable milking and land management systems, with a particular focus on how these practices relate to the world of food production. The farm tour was designed to give our Food Studies students a first-hand understanding of the interconnectedness between food production and sustainability.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the exploration of the farm’s rotary milking facilities. Our students had the opportunity to observe Caldermeade Farm’s innovative and sustainable milking system in action. They witnessed the integration of modern technology and responsible practices aimed at minimising waste, reducing environmental impact, and ensuring the welfare of the farm’s animals.

For our Food Studies students, this experience was particularly significant as it allowed them to witness the journey of milk production from the farm to the table. They gained a profound understanding of the importance of sustainable practices in food production and how they directly impact the quality of the products we consume.
