State School Spectacular

Ms McGloin - Arts & Technology Leader of Learning

Congratulations to our team of Mass Dance and Mass Choir students who performed at John Cain Arena on Saturday, September 9 as part of the 2023 Victorian State School’s Spectacular.

The process began in February this year when we announced that our school would be performing in this year’s show. Students expressed their interest, auditioned and completed the applications in order to join the team. Throughout the year we have attended several HUB rehearsals where we have rehearsed the songs and dances with other schools before joining all schools at John Cain Arena.

On Thursday, September 7 we met at Cranbourne train station at 7:20 am and made our way into the city together. Once there we were able to see for the first time the enormity of the event and the mammoth number of students and schools involved. We were fortunate enough to have teams representing our college in the Mass Dance and the Mass Choir.

Their experiences were both wonderful – but very different. The Mass Choir were on show the entire length of the performance unable to hide from the audience or cameras for a well-deserved break, whilst the Mass Dancers emerged from underneath the arena for our 8 dance routines, before exiting again.

On Friday we met for an even bigger day at 6:30am and made our way into the city together. Once there we took our places in the stands, donned our costumes and made our way into our caterpillars ready to rehearse the second act of the show. In the afternoon we ran the entire show ahead of the matinee and evening performance on Saturday.

Not even the weather could hold us back from having an amazing time and putting on a spectacular show for the audience. The students performed sensationally well for the live audiences and also for the cameras. After months of rehearsals, our Mass Choir and Mass Dancers demonstrated how hard work, perseverance, focus, commitment and enthusiasm can pay off.

Thousands of steps were made, many snacks were had, friendships grew, and laughs were had. On behalf of Kat Mizzi (Mass Choir), and myself (Mass Dance), we would like to thank all of the students involved and their families for being a part of the teams and for jumping in with both feet to be a part of this huge event. We would like to thank Angus Landy (Mass Choir) and Hayley Robinson (Mass Dance), for dedicating their time to support our students throughout this event.

Our students represented our college incredibly well. We are so incredibly proud of all of you. Thank you for following our instructions, for being responsible, for arriving on time, for communicating effectively and politely with your families, for being grateful, for learning your lines and your moves, for being enthusiastic, for being lifelong learners, for taking risks and most of all for being the kind, friendly and respectful people that you are. Superstars – all of you!

The Victorian State School’s Spectacular will be televised later in the year.

Congratulations again to our teams for the VSSS.
