Andrews Cup Basketball and Gymnastics

It was evident from the first bounce of the ball and the first beam routine that the weeks of training had paid off for our Andrews Cup Basketball and Gymnastics competitors, with major improvements in individual skills and match play!

The enjoyment, positive attitude, determination and hard work they have exuded at training and on competition day was rewarded with success!

Our Andrews Cup Basketball teams qualified for the semi-finals with both teams only losing one game in their round matches.  The D-Gradeteam, which was made up of all 'new' players to Basketball, were outstanding right from the first game scoring 22 baskets. Our defensive efforts were amazing, as was our shooting, which improved throughout the day. Despite all the players giving their best efforts, we were unable to score the winning basket in the semi-finals and lost by a narrow margin.

Our B-Grade team shone brightly in true Clayfield College spirit, winning their semi-final qualifying game by 12 points. Their efforts in the 3rd versus 4th playoff showcased all that excites us all about sport - with end-to-end scoring, impressive defense and last second baskets. The final result was a draw, 6 – 6, which was a pennant worthy effort!

Well done to the 19 students who represented the College and achieved the great results detailed below.

  • B-Grade: 3rd place
  • D-Grade: 4th place

While our basketballers were contesting and winning some nail-biting games down the Gold Coast, our gymnasts where busy displaying wonderful technique and giving their best performances at the Andrews Cup Gymnastics competition at Somerville House.

It was clear from our warm-up competition held on Saturday 21 October that our gymnasts would perform well!  From their first to their last training, they have achieved huge improvements in both their techniques and confidence. The satisfaction was clear when each of them achieved a new skill and finished with a sparkling smile equal to their sparkle on their competition leotard.

The competition commenced with our D1-Grade and D2-Grade teams, who despite the early start, were switched on from the beginning. Many of these two teams consisted of our Year 2 and 3 students, many who were attending the competition for the first time. Well done to all our teams!

The competition continued with our C-Grade and A-Grade teams, who were also outstanding and achieved some personal best scores on the day.

Congratulations and well done to the 23 students who made up the four teams at the competition, returning to the College with three pennants!

  • A-Grade:  2nd place
  • C-Grade: 3rd place
  • D1-Grade: 3rd place
  • D2-Grade: 7th place

Lastly, we extend a heartfelt thank you to the coaches at Delta Gymnastics led by Georgina Osborne, as well as Mitch Hayward and Brodie Meis. Your expert guidance ensured our students were well-prepared!

Clayfield College's Inaugural Boys' Basketball Team Takes the Court

Excitement is brewing at Clayfield College as our first boys' basketball team prepares to make their debut in the Brisbane Basketball Inc club competition. Clayfield College Sport has expanded its horizons by introducing a boys' basketball team to its already thriving sports program.

The boys are eagerly anticipating their entry into the competitive domain of club basketball. After weeks of practice and training, they are ready to showcase their enthusiasm on the court. This Friday marks a significant milestone as they take the court for the first round of the competition, and the anticipation is palpable.

What sets this event apart is not only the school's historic entry into the boys' basketball arena, but also the pride our young athletes take in wearing their brand-new Clayfield College basketball playing strip!

As our boys' basketball team gears up for their first game, they are ready to leave it all on the court. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to seeing their hard work and dedication pay off. Go Clayfield College!
