Principal's Report
Mrs Larissa Vesdrevanis
I hope everyone enjoyed the Melbourne Cup Holiday on Tuesday. We are halfway through Term 4 and with the end of year on the horizon we eagerly anticipate some key events namely, 5/6 Camp, Ball Sports Day & Colour Run, Science Day and Junior Camping Program to name a few. We are fortunate that the staff at Donvale are always looking to enrich the lives of our students through a variety of initiatives.
Congratulations to the 5/6 Donvale Dolphins Hoop Time Team who competed in a number of games at the State Basketball Centre today. A big thank you to Jaimie Mackintosh for coaching the team and driving the students.
On Wednesday, the grade 3/4 students and teachers set off to Camp ADANAC in the Yarra Junction. The students are having a brilliant time, and we look forward to hearing about their camp adventures. Thank you to the teachers and volunteers for all your efforts and for supporting the camping program at Donvale.
Student Initiative
I would like to acknowledge and celebrate two of our Donvale students, Isabella and Pierre, from 1/2W, who took the initiative to raise money for our school. They went door to door in the community, selling homemade cookies and cupcakes. Not only did the children raise funds for the school, but they also made positive connections with families in the Donvale Community, many of whom are Donvale Primary School Alumni. A special thank you goes to Koon, who baked the cookies and cupcakes!
I want to commend Isabella and Pierre for exemplifying our school values of responsibility and gratitude. They have represented our school with pride and have become excellent role models and school ambassadors. I have invited Isabella and Pierre to speak about their experience at our whole school assembly next Friday.
New website for Donvale PS
Donvale Primary School (donvaleps.vic.edu.au)
I am thrilled to announce that Donvale Primary School has launched a brand-new website! With a fresher and more modern look, along with easy navigation, our new website aims to provide an enhanced user experience for all visitors.
While we are still in the process of updating information and pictures, as well as creating new content, we are excited to share this new platform with our school community. We value your input and suggestions, so please feel free to email the school with any ideas you may have to further improve our website.
We look forward to your continued support and engagement as we strive to make our website a valuable resource for students, parents, and the wider community.
Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day marks the date in 1918 when the First World War came to an end. It is officially observed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year. Remembrance Day is held on the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in WWI. At around 5am on 11 November 1918, the Armistice was signed by representatives of France, Britain and Germany, and six hours later at 11am, the guns fell silent on the Western Front.
The primary Remembrance Day tradition observed in Australia is holding one minute’s silent reflection at 11am to remember those who gave their lives in service. Remembrance Day services are held across Australia for communities to commemorate together.
As Remembrance Day does not fall on a school day this year, we have provided you with links to view the commemorative service hosted by Victoria’s Shrine of Remembrance. The service will be live streamed on the Shrine’s Facebook and YouTube channels from 10:30 am. Refer to the Shrine of Remembrance website for more information.
