Mandarin News…

In the Mandarin room this week, Grade 6 students are seriously moulding terracotta warriors with air-dry clay using tools. This term, Grade 5/6s have been exploring the history of the Qin Dynasty and its first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, focusing on finding the reasons for the discovery and creation of the terracotta warriors.

Through this topic, not only do students find out a lot about the historical facts about the terracotta warriors, but also have a chance to make them with their own hands to gain an understanding of the Chinese craftsmanship from 2,000 years ago.

While Grade 5/6 students are on this historical topic, Grade 1/2s have completed their ‘Animal Posters’ as part of their animal topic this term, being able to say some names of iconic Chinese and Australian animals such as giant panda, kangaroo, koala, and wombat.
