This year from Semester 2 saw the return of STEM to Aitken Hill Primary School.
It's been an exciting time and students from Prep to Year 6 have enjoyed being challenged and learning new and exciting skills for the future.
In Term 2 our 3-4 students built on the work they did in class with Motion and Force by designing and iterating on a lego Rover to take to another planet. They investigated the effect of friction, mass and non-contact forces such as electromagnetism. This was a fantastic chance to learn about the engineering process and how to learn from both the science and our observations to continually improve a design.
5 -6 students ran through a series of experiments on the properties of light and colour. They utilised lights, mirrors, lasers, and prisms to reflect, refract and absorb light. Learning how something we see and experience everyday has complex actions happening all around us.
In Term 4 students from Prep to grade 6 learnt about computational thinking by programming robots such as the Beebots, Sphero Bolts, and the Agent bot in Minecraft education. Students learnt about concepts such as 'bug fixing', computational thinking and critical thinking. They worked their way through a variety of challenges with logic and creativity.
We can't wait to see all the exciting things we have planned for next year!
