Week 5
Wow, we are just about halfway through the term already and speeding towards the Summer holidays!
It has continued to be a busy few weeks with the final camp of the year for Year 5, Halloween celebrations and organisation of the Prep 2024 transitions. We know life can be really busy and it is so important to make sure that you get some important 'down' time. Remember to keep looking after yourselves, whether that be planning a quieter day each weekend, having a family lie in (can children be persuaded to do this?!), having a pyjama day or just simply having some tech free time...think about what you need as a family to enable that balance to happen.
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support
Current Whole School Behaviour Focus - Take care of the environment
This week we have introduced our next behaviour focus: ‘Take care of the environment' as part of our focus on the value of respect. Taking care of the environment is about looking after the land, the air, the water, the plants and the animals that live here. It is also about looking after any spaces we use.
Students have been learning about ways we can take care of the environment by saving energy and resources and looking after the space. Students and Wembley staff are watching for examples of students taking care of the environment and recording a nomination for these students. If your child comes home with a blue respect stamp, be sure to ask them what they did to earn this stamp.
Keep a look out for our posters around school showing everyone how to take care of the environment.
A number of Wembley students have helped contribute to a video showing the different ways we can take care of the environment. This video has been shared with all students so they can practise how to take care of the environment.
Previous Whole School Behaviour Focus - Be fair
Over the previous two weeks, students have been learning about the behaviour of 'being fair' as part of our value of respect. Being fair is about being just and impartial, treating everyone equitably and ensuring that no one is subjected to bias or discrimination.
As part of these lessons, students looked at scenarios which allowed them to practise fairness, as well as reading books that discussed how to be fair. Students were also given stamps and nominated for our Wembley Values Award when they were seen being fair.
Wembley Values Award Winners
Thank you to all the students who nominated their peers when they saw them showing our behaviour focus of 'being fair' over the last fortnight. It was wonderful to read about all the great ways students have been showing fairness. Congratulations to each of the students, listed below, who won the Wembley Values Award.

School Counsellor - Kelly Edwards
Last week we welcomed Kelly to the Wellbeing Team at Wembley and what a brilliant start she has made already. Kelly has spent her first two weeks making her way through school, meeting all the children and learning all about Wembley. Here is all you need to know about Kelly:
Kelly will be working at Wembley on Mondays and Wednesdays. She has a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Counselling.
Kelly's work background is varied including time as a primary teacher in Western Australia, Head Counsellor at a US summer camp, Local Government youth work and counselling, leading services and support programs at Eating Disorders Victoria, and most recently with the School and Community division at Headspace National.
Kelly uses a variety of therapeutic approaches to match the child's needs and interests. These include the use of ACT, behavioural and cognitive therapy, holistic approaches, play therapy, positive psychology, solution focus and trauma informed practice.
On the fun front, Kelly's favourite colour is green and she is a tragic West Coast Eagles supporter (Kelly's words, not ours!)
Kelly already has an initial list of students that she will be working with and Kelly will be reaching out to any families of children that she will spending time with. As ever, if you feel that your child would benefit from some support from any member of the wellbeing team, please remember to reach out to your child's class teacher initially. Any children that are referred to the wellbeing team are always discussed in terms of the support that can be provided and a plan devised for each child will look different based on the needs of the individual.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast club continues to run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the eating area 8.30 - 8.55am.
There are a couple of reminders for all children:
Make sure food is eaten in the canteen/eating area, unless they are taking snacks for lunch/recess.
Please dispose of rubbish carefully and look after our school environment.
Thanks to everyone for using great manners at breakfast club and for continuing to respect the volunteers who donate their time in helping others.
Wellbeing Dogs
Ginny has had some awesome (or pawsome?!) days in school the last couple of weeks... and she also celebrated her 5th birthday! Happy birthday to you Ginny!!
