Wembley's Regional Athletics team enjoyed a warm and wonderful day at Keilor Athletics Track, as our athletes competed against the very best primary aged students from schools across the Western Metropolitan Region.
Our students gave their all in their respective individual and team events, and cheered each other on with vigour when they weren't competing themselves.
Three of our students - Octavia F (6B - 800m, 1500m), Marlie C (4B - Discus) and Milla G (4D - Long Jump) have qualified for the State Finals to be held at the Lakeside Athletics Centre in Albert Park on Wednesday 1 November. A tremendous achievement to be extremely proud of!
YEAR 5 CAMP KANGAROOBIE
I had the best time of my life, not even joking, year 5 camp is the bomb, canoeing was amazing, all2 the funny pictures and memories. Teachers friends and memories were the best i loved year 5 camp going to the beach was like taking a break from the world and feeling the sand beneath your toes and playing mugby till everyone told us to leave making new friends trying new experiences having a go at stuff you normally wouldn't watching movies late at night with all ur friends playing trivia night begging yourself, you will not missing the internet because U LOVED IT!! Loving camp, enjoying every scary story. Going through the muddy obstacle and ruining ur good clothes, but who cares u loved life at camp kangaroobie.

A cold gust of wind knocked year 5 kids in choke hold as piles of students clutching together. Seeing a glimpse of a red ball covered in grainy sand, my toes sinking in like quick sand and kids jumping up with joy, some cabins tidy some cabins not as renee walked by each one giving them a score. Kids on duty group and as one by one kids clapped with glee as food was brought to the table. Trivia night a night were kids huddled up in groups and earned points by answering different questions about different categories. A couple of them were about teachers and old tv shows. Me and my group came 3rd it was pretty surprising as we tied with another team with a whopping 34 points we all got one chocolate from a old coles bag i choses a freddo frog and my team all choses a kit kat.

I had the time of my life during each activity , especially mugby , the sea salt water tickling my toes as we played in the water one by one. To the part where I was back at camp having multiple sunburns and mosquito bites. Almost after every activity I was laughing my head off or ethier jumping with glee. Even though sometimes I came out of activities freezing , I still made the most of it. Life or death was one of those activities that you have to play , I mean , who wants to miss out on the best camp ever! I definitely recommend getting dirty and having the time of your life. Even though I was only there for a week I definitely made time for every activity , even though some of them were drenched in mud and rain water. If I had to pick out my favourite activity it would probably be a tie with Life or Death and The Obstacle Course. The camp leaders definitely made up a few laughs here and there , but that just made the experience 10 times better! But if you asked me “What camp did you like the most?” I would probably reply with “Camp Kangaroobie!”

Camp Kangaroobie was an extraordinary camp and we all loved it. Each activity containing a hidden adventure. By far mugby was the best. Rugby on the beach, no rules and tackling is allowed. Don’t be scared and just have fun at this camp, because by the time you know it you're on the bus coming back to school. But the only thing was, the water at the beach was freezing cold! Past all of that, the number one, best camp, is Camp Kangaroobie. Trivia nights, movie nights and the night walk. You make amazing memories at this camp and memories that you’ll remember.

Camp Kangaroobie was probably the best camp I’ve been to. Mugby or The game of life and death were probably the best ones apart from the time I got squirted with a watergun by Tom. I played table tennis a lot, and when I say “a lot” I mean every time I got the chance to. The whole experience was super cold, it even got to the point where it started hailing. I almost refused to do canoeing that’s how cold I was. But I ended up doing it and I had fun after all. (My hands almost fell off) Feeding the cows was a blast. I was dying with laughter because all the cows would just come up to you and start snatching the biscuit of hay out of your hands like the cows’ lives depended on it. There was movie nights where we got to stay up late, (for once) and There was a Trivia night which was super fun! I ended up going by myself and got a surprising 30 points which was probably 6th or 7th place! All I know was it was probably 4 points away from 3rd or something like that. (So close) At one point we had to send someone up from our group to do different challenges, and since I was the only one in my group, I had to go up every time… One of the questions was: “Who has the strongest abs???” Which we had to do planks. I thought I was done for but I ended up being in the last 4 standing. So I got 10 bonus points. (P.S R.I.P shoulders) The first or second night (I can’t remember) we had a move night where we watched “Jumanji” I really liked it, and then on the last night we watched “hotel transylvania” Very enjoyable too. The desserts were super good but my favourite one was the chocolate pudding most oher people liked the sticky date pudding which I didn;t mind but the chocolate pudding was way better. In my Cabin, I had, Javier, Hudson, Finn, Liam, Jensen, and Basqui. (Probably my best cabin) Food rating: 7/10. Overall rating:
8/10 Thanks for reading and I definitely recommend going to this camp!

Camp kangaroobie is the best camp you will go on while you’re at Wembley. It is roughly a 2 1⁄2 hour drive, (including stopping for lunch) and the activities are very fun. Mugby was my favourite activity by a long shot. It is like rugby, but with no rules, so you can tackle anyone on the opposition team for the ball (including your enemy!). I 100% recommend joining in. By the way, you will get very cold and wet in this camp, so make sure to bring a lot of jackets and some sunscreen for the hike to the mugby beach (I got very burned). The cabins at this camp fit 12 people, and the teacher cabins fit 4 so the chances are, you will probably be with some friends, and if you are not, you’ll make some. I recommend bringing a small packet of lollies to share in your cabin if your teacher allows it, as it gives you something to eat if you dislike the food they give you. Whatever you do, do not talk loudly during the night if your cabin is next to the teachers, as they can hear your every word through the walls.

Camp kangaroobie: Camp kangaroobie has to be one on one the most supreme camps I’ve experienced, for instance: All of the adventurous activities , in my opinion my favourite activity was Mugby and game of life and death which are probably the most active activities. The food was extraordinary, including all the delicious treats and desserts! You get super wet and sandy(not that muddy) and still you're having the time of your life. The bus ride was very questionable but I recommend bringing something to entertain you. At the end of day I was heading off to bed straight away after every activity. If I’m being honest I think everybody would’ve stayed for longer than a week . The views are so beautiful and the dogs (Lunar and Eco) were super playful and so kind to everybody. 3000% recommend coming to Camp kangaroobie , you’ll never want to leave.

Introducing the Read&Write learning support tool!
We are thrilled to announce the introduction of an exciting new learning support here at Wembley: ‘Read&Write’. This innovative digital tool is designed to enhance student's reading and writing experience, and we are excited to provide it to our students in Years 4-6.
What is Read&Write?
Read&Write is a literacy support tool that assists with everyday tasks, making reading, understanding unfamiliar words, and proofreading written work more manageable. This powerful tool offers a suite of twenty different reading support tools, including text-to-speech, which can be accessed by students when and where they need it. It empowers our students with choice in how they access and engage with content, ultimately improving their reading and comprehension skills.
Read&Write helps in the following ways:
Reading and Comprehension Tasks: It supports students in reading text out loud and understanding unfamiliar words, boosting their comprehension skills.
Easily Create Accessible Digital Resources: Read&Write allows both students and teachers to create digital resources that are accessible to all, ensuring that learning materials are inclusive.
Ownership of Learning: It provides students with the tools they need to take ownership of their learning journey, giving them the confidence to succeed.
Building Confidence: By improving reading and comprehension skills, Read&Write instills the confidence necessary for academic success.
The ability to read is a fundamental building block in a student's learning journey. If students struggle with reading, it can lead to disengagement and hinder their progress.
The reading comprehension features of Read&Write enable teachers to create a level playing field for all students. These features provide students with the reading support tools they need to succeed, understand, learn, and express themselves independently. This ensures that students can progress with confidence in all subject areas.
Getting Started with Read&Write:
Students in Years 4-6 have already been encouraged to install the Read&Write extension on their school laptops. If they haven't, they can download it from the following webstore link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/readwrite-for-google-chro/inoeonmfapjbbkmdafoankkfajkcphgd?_ga=2.244125005.956350075.1612776236-180404095.1584957119
The tool has also been downloaded onto school laptops, for those students not participating in the 1:1 program.
We believe that Read&Write will be an invaluable resource for all our students, especially those who find reading and writing challenging, and we can't wait to see how it enriches their learning experience. If you would like to find out more information about the features, you can find some informative instructional videos via the following link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvSZbmGbKpCTkk3S93CXtQWNf50f_Ow3D)
We look forward to witnessing the positive impact this program will have on our students' academic journeys.
