Year Two Team News

with Steph, Joel K and Georgia

Hello Year Two families,

As always, it has been another fun filled fortnight in Grade Two with plenty of exciting things happening.

Over the last two weeks we have explored transformations and revised addition and subtraction in Maths. This led students to investigate flip, turns and slides and where we see examples of this in real life. The students have also loved writing poems during literacy sessions and learning about all the fun things that can be found in the garden during inquiry.

Important news:

Grade 2 Warm water Swimming: Please note that we have swimming on BOTH Wednesday and Thursday next week. The remaining dates of our swimming program are:

-November 1st

-November 2nd

-November 8th

-November 15th

Student Behaviour in the yard: Over the last couple of weeks we have had a number of discussions with our students around behaviour in the yard.

We have an energetic cohort who seem to escalate their play during snack and lunch. We've noticed that these games don't start out this way, but they have escalated of late, which has led to some students getting hurt or frustrated. There is no one student, or group of students, rather it's how they are playing together.

To prevent this, we have spoken to the students ourselves and also had Mat speak to the students to make it clear that this can not continue.

Now would be a great time to remind your child the importance of personal physical boundaries when playing and encourage them to call out rough play when they see it, by talking to a yard duty teacher.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 5 and 6 of Term 4

Literacy: In Reading, we will be continuing to gather up facts when reading non-fiction texts. We will also continue to explore vowel digraphs.

Numeracy:  We will be revising place value and the four operations.

Inquiry: We will be continuing to learn about wildlife that can be found in the gardens around us from non-fiction texts.

Willy Kids: Through the pillar of responsibility, we will be learning about the importance of honesty.

Until next time,

The Grade Two Team - Steph Keswick (2K), Joel Kitchen (2J) & Georgia Grainger (2G)
