Year 5/6 Team News

with Laura, Christina, Bianca R, Molly, Bianca I, Steven & Will

Hello Year 5/6 families,

Literacy

In Grade 5 and 6, we're diving into the fascinating world of biographies! Our students are exploring the structures of different exemplar texts so that they can soon start writing about the lives of remarkable individuals. Additionally, we're delving into the pages of Australia's history to connect with our unit of inquiry.

Maths

Our Grade 5/6 students have wrapped up an incredible unit on length, perimeter, area, volume, capacity, and mass. They've measured, calculated, and explored the world of measurement in exciting ways. Now, as we gear up for assessments, our young mathematicians are preparing to showcase their skills. Next up, we're diving into the world of BODMAS!

Inquiry

Our newest unit of inquiry sets sail on a fascinating journey through Australia's history. We'll delve into the when and why of people's arrival Down Under. From ancient Indigenous cultures to modern-day migrations, we'll explore the diverse stories that have shaped this land. We had a fabulous time at the Immigration Museum and have learned more about the motivations to leave one’s home and loved ones behind in a search for a better life. What incredible tales we heard!

Our Excursion to the Immigration Museum

By Liam 5/6B

The experience of going to the immigration museum was an amazing experience. The part we enjoyed most was the train ride where we searched for the infamous chicken graffiti. On the way to the immigration museum, we stopped and had lunch at a bridge in the centre of the city. We looked at the cinema screen that told us

about the places people had come from around the world to immigrate to Australia, and the stories of the people that had came

through to Australia. We had fun looking at the titles and names of the countries at the glass bridge opposite the immigration museum. We also got fake passports, which we went through the museum, finding answers to fill them.

Warm regards,

The Grade 5/6 Team - Laura Bartholomeusz (5/6B), Christina Crosland (5/6C), Bianca Russo & Molly Hedditch (5/6H), Bianca Italiano & Steven Puhar (5/6I), Melati Cordell (5/6M) & Will Rogers (5/6R)
