ACTING PRINCIPAL REPORT

Today we celebrated World Teachers Day and acknowledged our teaching staff with a morning tea. We have an outstanding team of educators who are dedicated and care for their students. Our teachers were surprised with an individual written letter from our students. Thank you to each and every student who took the time to thank their teachers. These precious letters were very well received.

Our students are our top priory, and are always at the centre of our focus. During term 3, a team of our Leading Teachers and Principal team worked on a 4-week program ‘Celebrating Multiculturalism’, rolled out in our Personal Excellence Program (PEP) this term.

Our program ‘Celebrating Multiculturalism’, supported by the CMY (Centre for Multicultural Youth) began last week, which focuses on:

  • identifying and to developing strategies to ensure all students respect each other’s differences.
  • increasing students’ confidence and capability in discussing subjects such as culture and difference.
  • raising awareness of some ways in which people face discrimination in their daily lives
  • exploring safe ways of being an ‘Up-stander’ against discrimination

It is the partnership with parents that contributes to the success of the students and Brighton Secondary College as a whole.

I encourage you to take the time over the weekend to discuss with your child/ren about Upstander Behaviours and respecting differences.

This morning I had the opportunity to meet a number of our parents who attended the Parent/Carer community catch up in our staff room. It was lovely to see our staffroom full of parents who had the opportunity to meet ‘new friends’ and network. I would like to thank everyone who took the time out of the morning to drop in.

We will have another opportunity for interested parents later in the term, at a different time as we are aware that parents have busy schedules.

We look forward to expanding our BSC parent network and to foster productive and positive relationships.
