Level 5 & 6 Wonga Weekly

Week 5, Term 4

🌿 READING AND VIEWING

Students are continuing to study their novels. They are using evidence across chapters to compare and contrast characters, and explore themes. Students will also view a video about First Nation bush medicines and food, told by a Noongar elder.

🪴What you can do at home:

We encourage your child to read independently as often as possible. Discuss with your child different stories they have read and take note of how the characters have dealt with the problems that arise in these stories.

🌿 WRITING

Students are continuing to work through an author's process. They will elevate, edit and publish their story. When they finish this, they will promote their story by creating a book cover, blurb and trailer.

🪴What you can do at home:

Throughout the week, ask your child to share their story and planning process with you.

🌿 SPELLING AND GRAMMAR

To assist with the editing of their own writing, students will revise their skills of punctuation by applying it accurately to an unedited piece of writing.

🌿 MATHS

Students are investigating transformations of shape (flip, slide, turn, enlargement and reduction). They will also explore patterns of shape through tessellations.

🪴What you can do at home:

We encourage students to use Mathletics to further develop their skills and understanding of the areas of maths outlined above.

🌿 CBL

🌱 Our Big Idea for Term Four is 'Discovery'.

🪴Our Essential Question is:

🌏 In what ways can digital technologies improve our lives?

🪴Our Guiding Questions are:

🌏 How have the discoveries of digital technologies changed the world?

🌏 How do the positive impacts of digital technologies compared with the negative impacts?

🌱 Students will be exploring the idea of variables through the the Swift Playground activity of Spirals.

🌿 HOMEWORK

In addition to reading four times a week for at least 20 minutes, Mathletics and 'What you can do at home' recommendations above, this term:
