YEAR 10-12 NEWS

Term 4

Year 10

Year 11

A big congratulations to the year 11 students for the way they conducted themselves throughout the exam period. This experience will set you up for success next year. Early commencement of year 12 classes starts on Monday and runs until Thursday. If you are seeking to make a subject change you will need to speak to Ms Loe, to receive a subject change request and organise a meeting for next Friday.

A big final reminder that the first order of year 12 jumpers will close today! If you want to receive your jumper early next year you need to get your order in. For instructions on how to do so, check your emails or contact Ms Sullivan or Mr Bullock.

Year 12

I hope all who attended the graduation last week enjoyed themselves as much as I did. This was the first time we celebrated the end of yr 12 as a community with families being there for the entirety of the event and I honestly believe this was the best grad I have been to at WHC. I must give a big thank you to Vanessa Hucker who planned the event and for making it a truly fitting end to the students secondary schooling. Also, thanks need to be given to Jen Chui who began the planning of the event way back in term 1 before going on maternity leave and all the staff who helped out, especially Fiona Taylor, Warwick Lamb, Sophie Trezise, Bri Magill, Sam Arachchige and Lily Fowler.

It would also be remise of me to not mention Mel Veljan for her excellent alumni speech. Having taught Mel and spoken to her on several occasions since graduating WHC, it is no surprise, and you will agree, she is an excellent public speaker and an inspiration to those around her.

Our next important dates for year 12 will be VCE Scores Release date on Monday 11th December. Ms Loe and myself will be available all day at the college for students to access their scores or discuss the results in terms of the future, or changes of  preferences for university courses.

Year 11 students spend 4 days participating in a range of activities in preparation for their Year 12 studies. Students set goals and identified their core values, completed impromptu oral presentations, and participated in STEM inspired workshops at the Geelong Tech School. Students designed and created a table maze from cardboard using Adobe Illustrator and a laser cutter. Once assembled, students used Hummingbird robotics to create code and attempt to solve the maze. On the second day, students designed a cartoon character and brought it to life with animation and augmented reality. Students enjoyed developing their skills and using their imagination to create amazing characters. To finish off the year, students designed and printed their own product using 3D CAD software and the 3D printers.
