World of Maths Incursion
On Friday, 1 December, our Year 7 students had a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of practical mathematics.
Facilitated by World of Maths, the incursion aimed to boost our students' problem-solving and mathematical skills through engaging, real-life activities. With remarkable skills and a dynamic approach, our presenter, Sascha Hentz, left a lasting impact on our students.
The activities covered a range of mathematical strands, including data analysis, numerical patterns, measurement, counting numbers, mazes, spatial reasoning, calculation, probability, graphs, statistics, logical thinking, trial and error, eliminating possibilities, and logical deduction. This comprehensive approach ensured that our students not only strengthened their foundational skills but also gained a broader perspective on the practical applications of mathematics.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Mr Peter Turkich, Ms May Dao, Ms Chen Wang, Mr Sean Ebert, Mr Louis Webb, Mrs Lyndsey Cardenia, Mrs Sylvia Matchado and Ms Amanda Marsh for their assistance on the day. They played a crucial role in making this a seamless and enriching experience for our students.
I would like to share just some of the feedback we've received from participating students:
The Maths incursion was very interesting. While completing some of the games, I was a bit confused but as I worked through it with my group and teachers I started to understand. I feel like this incursion has helped me understand more - Theresa Kee Yawm (Year 7)
The Maths incursion was fun and there were a lot of puzzles. I think it helped me since I'm not really good at puzzles. Some of the games were tricky but my group helped me understand it - Zoey Clausen (Year 7)
I had an amazing experience at the Maths incursion. I got to try out different activities and experience different levels of difficulty. My favorite activity would probably be chain escape. I enjoyed that activity because I got have fun with my friends and it was also really challenging to see how we could escape the chains. The most challenging activity that I experienced was the pizza pie and the security camera since it required lots of thinking outside the box. Overall, I enjoyed my experience - Gemma Echeta (Year 7)
I liked the Maths incursion because it had a lot of different activities. I learnt a lot as well. I would really like to do it again and I think it is a really good idea. This is because it is fun and you learn a lot. I would recommend this for Year 7 students in the future - Holly Walker (Year 7)
