Meet Meleina and Sea Shepherd Marine Debris Clean Up

Meet Meleina

It is with great pleasure that we introduce our 2024 Climate Canons Captain, Meleina Zeeb.

Since 2021, Meleina has been an active member of the Climate Canons. Anyone that knows her knows that she's dedicated to working towards a future where managing a sustainable and thriving environment can intersect with innovation and become a part of the framework of our society. She feels strongly about the way economics and industrialisation takes priority over the ecosystem, especially when there are solutions and possibilities, and hopes to be a part of the solutions here at the College and in her future. Ever since joining the 'River Rangers' at her primary school, Meleina has participated in activities to help the environment. She's in awe of the impact a small community can have on our environment, especially when it contributes to changing habits and educating people on a larger scale like the Climate Canons do.

We're excited to be led by Meleina in 2024, her passion and commitment to create a more sustainable and eco-conscious school environment will be infectious and we can’t wait to work with her. Meleina will be presented her Captain’s badge at the first College Assembly of 2024.

Sea Shepherd Marine Debris Clean Up

Sea Shepherd is an international, non-profit marine conservation organisation that campaigns to defend, conserve and protect the world’s ocean. As part of Independent Learning Week, our Years 7-8 Climate Canons had the opportunity to join Sea Shepherd Australia's fight to defend, conserve and protect our oceans.

Students met with members of Sea Shepherd to learn about the plastic pollution negatively impacting our beaches and discussed simple ways we can all be part of the solution. Students participated in a marine debris clean up removing eight full bags (35kg or 3,134 items) of waste off Port Beach, Fremantle. The Climate Canons were excellent ambassadors for the College in their efforts to make our environment a cleaner place.

Thank you to Mr Aaron McGoorty for driving the bus and to Mrs Michelle Hoffman, Mrs Alexandra Ericson and Miss Claire Firth for supporting Sea Shepherd and the Climate Canons on the day.
