Library and Information Centre news

This week our Library Committee met, welcoming Bailey Bottrall as our new Library Captain and farewelling Katie Richardson. Katie has done an amazing job leading activities, guiding members of the committee and positively promoting our lovely space. Thank you for your work this year, Katie, and welcome Bailey.   The committee has planned library activities for the remainder of the term.  This includes a two-sentence scary story competition and scary book recommendations for Halloween, and a coding workshop in Week 9.

A Maker Space has been created in the Reference Area.  This area is for use at recess, lunch, and afterschool.  It will be a “moveable feast” of weekly hands-on activities designed to engage creativity and promote mindfulness.

This week in the Maker Space:

  • the old typewriter has resurfaced, and students have been fascinated by how it works.
  • Lego sets are available for construction.
  • Wool, needles and patterns are available as we begin our KOGO project – see below.
  • Doodle Art, Word searchers, Sudoku, and mindful colouring activities are available.

KOGO = Knit One Give One, is a project where people can knit a square that will be donated to charities who then sew them into blankets or baby rugs for those in need.  So please start knitting!  Guidelines are below.  Knitting help and advice will be available in the library on Wednesday lunchtimes for beginners and we welcome you to come and knit in the library on any lunchtime.  Donation date for our squares is 6 December.  Any donations of wool or needles will be gratefully accepted at the library.  Please see below for details on the KOGO project.
