MYRNIONG SPECIAL EVENTS

In the last fortnight, the Junior School has had the pleasure of hosting two special events.

Year 12 students return to Myrniong

On Thursday 19 October, we welcomed back ten of our Year 12 students who commenced their school journey at Myrniong. Seven of the ten started in the Early Learning Centre or Prep.  We were blessed with amazing spring weather as the Early Learning Centre and Junior School students lined our beautiful oak-lined driveway as the Year 12s made their way up to the Library lawn for a special assembly.  Their parents also joined us for an emotional afternoon.  Prep and Year 1 students presented the Year 12s with a graduation bear.  They also received a collection of photographs from their time at Myrniong and a copy of the Year Five ‘Positive Affirmations’ certificate they received in 2016.  I feel this is a genuinely unique event to our school and, a wonderful avenue of connection between Junior School and Senior Campus.

Art Exhibition and Grandparents’ Day

On Monday, we held our biennial Art Exhibition and Grandparents’ Day celebration.  It was a huge success. The weather was simply amazing, and we welcomed many grandparents from far and wide to the beautiful Myrniong grounds. Year 6 leaders, Tahni Brown and Hannah Young, officially opened the exhibition. Grandparents were invited to tour the Art Room with their grandchildren and view the wonderful array of artwork on display.  Credit to our talented Art teacher Mrs Bec Cameron for all her efforts in teaching the skills needed for the students to produce such high-quality artwork.

STAR STUDENT AWARDS

The following students were awarded Star Students at this week’s Assembly.

  • Year 1 - Jack Nagorcka for persevering with maths problem solving tasks.

SPOTLIGHT ON MYRNIONG LEARNING

Year 5 students have been busy researching and writing their plays for our upcoming Year 5 Assembly.  Students have chosen an area of study from our Literacy and Inquiry units from this semester and are having fun finding novel ways to showcase their knowledge and talents.

Year 3 students, under the guidance of student teacher Miss Wilson, have been busy writing letters to be part of the VCOP Christmas letter exchange.  Their letters will be sent to schools all around Australia and they will then eagerly await their own letters in the mail.  Students will count down to Christmas with their own advent calendars made up of a letter from each school, a Christmas decoration for the classroom tree and a nominated random act of kindness to carry out in the leadup to Christmas

The letter exchange was started to help promote acts of kindness and good old fashioned letter writing.

Uniting Church Christmas Hamper Appeal

Each year the Junior School supports the Uniting Church Christmas Food Appeal.  It is a wonderful opportunity for our learning community to assist those less fortunate in our local Hamilton community.  The following items have been requested to enable the Uniting Church volunteers to put together Christmas Hampers:

  • tinned ham
  • tinned vegetables
  • tinned fruit
  • long life custard
  • long life juice (no sugar added if possible)
  • shortbread/chocolate biscuits
  • chocolates
  • savoury biscuits/rice crackers
  • tea/coffee
  • long life milk

Collection boxes will be in classes and the Early Learning Centre this week.  We aim to deliver all donations to the Uniting Church on the day of our Junior School Nativity Service -Tuesday 28 November.
