Secondary News

I hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day weekend, and that mothers and grandmothers enjoyed being spoiled! My observations of occasions like this are that people serve in different ways: some like to give flowers or gifts, some prepare food, some prefer to wash up (not as many…), some express their gratitude in words, some in actions. Service comes in many forms, and as adults, we teach and model a servant heart in so many situations, but particularly with our families.
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 11:1 “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” Just prior to this phrase he is speaking about not seeking his ‘own advantage’ and doing ‘all to the glory of God’. This is a strong statement! ‘Follow me as I follow Christ’. It highlights the importance of living well with others and that how we live speaks volumes about who we follow. The focus should certainly be for all of us to ‘follow Christ’. As we do that, what others see will be a transformed and faithful way of living.
Our young people thirst for that ‘modelling’ of how to live. They are growing up in a world whose modelling frequently shifts, creating confusion and uncertainty. As teachers, we recognise that our ‘modelling’ matters, and as parents and carers, yours does too. Even our younger students look up to our older students to see how they behave, what they say, and how they exercise their responsibilities. May there be blessing to you and your families as you seek to follow Christ, serving for His glory.
Photo Permissions
We love to photograph our students doing great things and sharing this within our College community. For this we need your permission. If you haven’t yet updated these permissions for this year, can you do so? This can be done through the Compass app by going to ‘Update my details’ and clicking on the ‘pencil’ icon for each child, then scrolling down to the privacy settings. Please select both boxes. Thank you for helping to keep our system up to date!
Events
The Cross Country held last week was a great success with high student participation. Well done to all! Year 11 students visited the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Day which always presents excellent advice, seeking to help young drivers be safe and sensible.
We have several events that have coincided in Week 4, including a Field Day run by Petaurus, da Vinci state finals, the Tracey Gunson netball competition, a Visual Arts trip to Canberra, and the State Volleyball teams. We also have local music and arts excursions. And every day, our classrooms are filled with great teaching and learning.
Our College is a thriving place, with many opportunities for students!
Exam Week
Next week is Year 7-11 exam week. All students have received a timetable showing when they have exams. Year 7-10 will sit most of their exams during normal lessons, whilst Year 11 students have a special timetable for their longer exams and study periods. All students are advised to spend time each day reviewing, rewriting and speaking out the things they have learned.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you would like to connect. My email is g.xeros@wwcc.nsw.edu.au or contact the College office to arrange a time if you would like to meet in person or request a phone call.
