Term One and School Holidays

As we come to the close of a busy Term One at Myrniong, it is a great opportunity to reflect on the many achievements and experiences we have shared over the past nine weeks. It has been a full and productive term, with plenty of learning, growth, and special moments along the way. I would like to congratulate our students on their effort, determination, and positive approach to their learning. They continue to make us proud through their participation in academic, sporting, and creative activities. My sincere thanks also go to our staff, whose dedication and support help create a nurturing and engaging learning environment at the ELC and Junior School, each and every day. I wish all in our learning community a happy, safe, and restorative two-week break. I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 20 April, for the commencement of Term Two.

Uniform - Term Two

For the first two weeks of term, Junior School students can opt for summer or winter uniform. On Monday, 4 May (Week 3), all students are to be in winter uniform. The Junior School ANZAC Service will be held on Thursday 23 April. Blazers and ties are required for this formal event.

Basketball Success 🏀

Congratulations to our Under 12B and Under 14B Girls’ basketball teams who won their respective HBA Summer Grand Finals last Friday night. Grand Finals are unpredictable matches, where regular season results can mean little when games get tight. The Under 12B College team went down in the first week of finals 32-2 to Minders Blue, the team they faced in the Grand Final.  There is a wonderful saying in sports - ‘no pressure, no diamonds’ and the College girls played extremely well, gelled as a team, and absorbed the Grand Final pressure with a steely determination. Two well-deserved results to cap off successful seasons.

  • Under 12B - College 15 defeated Minders Blue 8

  • Under 14B - College 10 defeated St Mary’s Orange 8

Netball Season 🏐

Congratulations to our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 netball teams who completed their summer season on Saturday. Both teams’ skill sets improved over the fullness of the competition and it was wonderful to see their teamwork and sportsmanship on display each week.

Thank you to team managers - Anna Bufton, Fiona Whale, Mrs Jo Bell; coaches Belle Wallis, Isabell Malseed, Pepper Bowes, Naomi Lee and Claudia Cochran; and umpires Leila Robertson, Annika Fitzsimmons and Liv Baulch for all their support of the teams. Saturday Netball returns in Term 4.

Year 5 and 6 Camp 🏕️

Our Year 5/6 students returned on Friday from a highly enjoyable three-day camp to Port Fairy and The Outside Inn at the Wannon.

Day 1 - We commenced the camp in Port Fairy with a morning of surfing. Mother Nature shined on us with beautiful autumnal weather and a small, consistent swell. A great time was had by all. We arrived at The Outside Inn at the Wannon in the afternoon and commenced our rotations with surrey bikes, garden games and tower games. After a hearty dinner, we broke into Year 5 and Year 6 teams for a nighttime reflector hunt. Year 5 were the victors, with a record time of 16 minutes.

Day 2 - After breakfast we headed into a day of mountain bike riding, abseiling, crate stacking, bushwalking, and outdoor games. The weather was a little wet and cold, but this didn’t deter the students from enjoying the activities. After dinner, we settled in for a movie.

Day 3 - We had breakfast, packed and cleaned our cabins and completed our rotations with tower games, bushwalking, and surrey bikes. We enjoyed a barbecue lunch and finished off with an ‘emu parade’ to leave only footprints at The Outside Inn.

The camp was a tremendous success. Our Year 5/6 students were wonderful ambassadors for the College. They supported each other, embraced teamwork, pushed their comfort zones and gave everything a go.  A big shout out to Mrs. Bell and Mr. Hawthorne for their energy, organisation, endeavour, and care of our students on camp.

Junior School Captain's Corner

Anika Nelson - ‘The Outside Inn camp is one of my favourite camps. The activities include everyone and involve lots of teamwork. My highlight was the crate stacking. We got to 15 crates high.’

Thomas Kennedy - ‘The Year 5/6 Outside Inn camp was one of the best camps I have ever been on. I am sad I won’t be able to do it again.  My highlight was the surfing at Port fairy. It was my first time surfing, and I was able to stand up.’

Sandpit Toys

Our Junior School sandpit is always a popular play area for the students, with plenty of imaginative play on offer. If you have any old sandpit toys that are looking to be rehomed, we are starting a collection that the students will be able to regularly access.
