Physical Education
Hello St Mary’s Primary School !
My name is Jacqui Braun and I am the Physical Education teacher this year. I am a sport enthusiast with a classroom teacher background and have worked at an independent boys’ school for the past 7 years. I am excited to work with the St Mary’s students to increase their love and understanding of sport and the importance of being physically active.
Term 1 has been a very exciting term in PE, because the students have been training for the Athletics Carnival. Each week they have practiced new skills varying across a variety of track and field events. They began working on shuttle relays, learning how to correctly pass and receive the baton with a butterfly grip, then moving onto a circular relay where they must receive the baton behind them with their left hand. We moved onto sprinting technique where we focused on four main points; elbows by your side, pushing off toes, longer strides and eyes forward. It has been fantastic to see how much their running has improved and how they have incorporated this technique into jumping over hurdles.
We are very excited for our Athletics Carnival which is on Wednesday March 20 at Moorabbin Athletics Centre. Our Prep to Year 2 students will arrive by bus at 10am and leave at 12.30pm. It will be a full day event for our Years 3 to 6 students. If you would like to come and assist on the day, please email me - this may be all day or for an hour or so. In order to promote house spirit, we encourage students to wear their house colour to support their team. This could be in the form of a colourful wig, tutu, t-shirt or socks.
