Year 3

Literacy

In year 3, our students have focussed on persuasive writing, to practice for NAPLAN. Through exploring the strategy OREO (Opinion, reason, example, opinion) students have crafted well structured paragraphs. They delved into the topic of 'Class Sport,' examining its pros and cons to create a persuasive text. In their writing, students presented their arguments and supporting evidence to persuasde the readers.

Maths

In Year 3, students have been actively engaged in exploring number patterns, number lines, and doubling. Through hands-on activities and interactive lessons, they have developed a deep understanding of how numbers can be manipulated and represented. Working with number lines has helped them visualise numerical relationships and understand concepts like addition, subtraction, and multiplication more concretely.

Year 3  Family/Caregiver will have a Sacramental information session with Fr Martin on Monday March 18th in the McKillop Hall at 3pm. Please use this wonderful resouces linked below to prepare your child at home for the important sacramenthttps://sacraments.melbournecatholic.org/

With Reconcilliation not far away, during R.E lessons, students have been looking at the powerful story of  Zaccheus, exploring his personal transformation and reconciliation. Despite his actions as a tax collector, he experiences forgiveness and healing through his encounter with Jesus which leads to a change in his behaviour and to make amends.

Students have explored their personal hero's reflecting on individuals who embody values such as forgiveness, healing and understanding. This helps our year 3 students see how these values can be lived out in real life and inspires them to show these values.

Karate

Grade 3's and 4's had an AWESOME time participating in a karate incursion on Thursday the 29th of February. If you are interested in signing your child up for karate, there were forms sent home for before school karate lessons.

Year 4

Literacy

Morphology

Grade 4 students have been working hard during literacy focussing on the morpheme <dis> . Make sure you ask your child about what this morpheme means!

TWR

Students have been actively engaged in enhancing their writing skills. We focused on two key areas; upgrading verbs to add interest and fixing run-on sentences for gramtically correctness. The students had work has been shown, as they have successfully applied these concepts to improve their sentence structure and incorporate upgraded verbs. This has resulted in clearer, more impactful and engaging writing.

Comprehension & Fluency

We have continued working on our fluency and comprehension goals, with students completing a comprehension activity three times a week and fluency four times a week. We encourage you to keep practicing these skills at home with your children, by reading each night and asking literal and inferential questions as they read.

Maths

Over the course of the past two weeks, our focus in class has been on addition, specifically emphasizing both regrouping and non-regrouping methods. We delved into the concept of rounding numbers, enhancing our understanding of these fundemental mathematical processes.
