Prep News
The Preppies have triumphantly finished (survived) their first full week of school, and we couldn't be prouder of their accomplishment! We're delighted by their enthusiastic response to our explicit, direct teaching approach, and we're already witnessing the positive impact it's having on their learning. Look at the progress they have made with their writing. While some teacher support was needed to write the sentences, all ideas were generated by the students themselves. Wow.
This week, we implemented the use of whiteboards (one of our High Impact Teaching Strategies) in our Maths lessons. It's truly impressive to witness how rapidly students have adopted and applied novel techniques like 'hover it,' 'chin it,' and 'park it.' As you will see in their respective sections, our Year One's and Two's also use their whiteboards across their Maths, MSL and TWR sessions.
Our take home readers start next week (Week 6). Students will take home three books on Monday to read for the week. Please ensure your child's reading folder is in their bag every Monday, so we can swap readers.
Our Prep's had their first visit to the church this week. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to explore and learn about this important place. In class we explored the importance of the cross as a symbol of God's love.
Year One News
In Year One, our students have focus on understanding place value, specifically with two-digit numbers, employing various hands-on materials to solidify their comprehension. In MSL, the focus has been on recognising open and closed syllables in words such as 'basin,' as well as identifying irregular words like 'they' and 'you.' Furthermore, in writing, they've initiated an exploration of 'to be' verbs and have begun distinguishing between questions and statements.
Year Two News
In Year Two, the focus has been on understanding the rules of magic 'e' and 'thief y'. In Maths, they have been introduced to the concept of time, learning how to read and interpret analog clocks, particularly focusing on 'quarter past' and 'quarter to' intervals. In their exploration of Austrlaia and beyond, students have delved into the intriguing world of artifacts, comparing objects from the past and present to understand changes over time. In writing, they've been refining their understanding of conjunctions, particularly 'but,' 'so,' and 'because,' to strengthen their writing skills and logical reasoning abilities.
Fun times
Toys on the Yard
Students are welcome to bring toys such as Beyblades to school for use during outdoor playtimes; however, it's important to emphasise that the responsibility for these toys lies with the students themselves. As some learning sessions have been disrupted by disputes and children searching for misplaced toys, we kindly request that all toys brought to school be clearly marked so students can easily recognise them.
