HELP, HELP, HELP (Please) !!!!!!

So maybe you do not have the time to help out in the classroom or to be on School Council or Parents and Friends but maybe you can help out with this request.

This year we have our very popular Carlsruhe Fair. People drive from Melbourne and regional towns such as Shepparton, Ballarat, Geelong and Bendigo to come to this very well known event.

This event occurs every two years and is the major fundraiser for our school. For a year prior to each fair a small team of people work together to prepare for this famous event.

However, to pull off such a logistical event the more people we can have on board, the better. We meet once a month for around an hour. We have allocated responsibilities such as organisation of ticketing, food trucks, the plant stall, etc. For each area we try to have a team of people. This means we might have a number of people making phone calls or calling into businesses to ask for donations etc or people behind the scenes making jams and preserves, potting up plants or helping transport some of the equipment out to the fair.

If you think you or a family member can help in anyway, we would love to hear from you. Being part of this group does not mean having a major role or being at the fair all day, it just means providing some extra support to our core team. The meetings are light hearted with the team made up of mums and dads.

Student Leaders

Last week at assembly our School Captains and Wellbeing and Environmental leaders for 2024, were presented with their badges. All of these leaders went through a rigorous process of writing an application and presenting a speech to the Year 4/5/6 students before their peers then voted. The short listed applicants for School Captains were also interviewed by myself, Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Minchew and our 2023 School Captains.

We are very proud of our newly elected leaders and we look forward to working with them this year and helping to build their leadership capacity whilst also listening to the ideas they put forward on behalf of their peers.

Open afternoon

Last Friday we had our Open Afternoon in classrooms. I would like to extend a huge appreciation to all who attended. One of the greatest motivators of student engagement is knowing that teachers and parents are interested. It was delightful watching the joy shared between parents and their children. We do however understand that due to work and other personal commitments that some people cannot attend these events.

In classrooms – Junior Unit

It is always a pleasure to watch students engaging in their Performing Arts sessions. Last week I had the pleasure of watching our junior students learning a dance routine.

Students in our junior unit have also been enjoying participating in water safety sessions with an instructor from Kyneton Aquatic Centre. These sessions are teaching students how to be safe around water and what actions to take if they find themselves or others in trouble.

Parents and Friends Annual General Meeting

Next Tuesday at 7.30 we have the Parents and Friends Annual General Meeting. The meeting will take place in the top portables up behind the admin building.

Our Parents and Friends team is a pivotal part of school. This team meets 8 times a year and is crucial to organising fundraising and social events. It is a great opportunity to meet other people and have a bit of fun. The meetings are light hearted with the team made up of mums and dads.

School Council Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting is on March 19. A big thankyou to the parents who have nominated to be on School Council. Parent voice is a fundamental part of the decision-making processes at Woodend Primary School. We appreciate the input when we are developing policies or planning new programs and projects.
