Sickbay

At Woodend Primary School all of our staff have up to date First Aid, anaphylaxis and CPR training. Sickbay is located opposite the office and is manned by the Education Support team during recess and lunchtime, all other times our office staff will assist students.

During class time, if a teacher sends a student to sickbay for additional first aid assistance, our office staff are available to assist with first aid needs.

During recess and lunchtime, while students are in the yard, one of our Education Support staff will be available in sickbay to assist students with their first aid needs as they arise.

If a student sustains a minor injury during recess or lunchtime, they can find one of the teachers on yard duty for first aid assistance. Our yard duty teachers, wearing Hi Vis vests, have a first aid kit with a small amount of supplies and can help on the spot. Otherwise, the yard duty teacher will give students a first aid pass and direct them to sickbay.

When a student arrives at sickbay they will be assisted promptly and asked some questions to help us assess their needs and to provide information that will be recorded on Compass. When the details are completed in Compass, the nominated parent/guardian will receive a Compass message with an outline of the injury or illness and the first aid care given to the student to keep parents/guardians informed. Sometimes there will be the need for us to call a parent/guardian to discuss the students’ injury or illness or to ask them to pick up their child.

Additionally, in sickbay we have a supply of clothing and underwear that students can change into in case they get wet, muddy or have a toileting accident. If your child comes home wearing a change of clothing from school, we would greatly appreciate it if you could wash them and have your child return them to the sickbay.
