Library News

The library staff would like to welcome our new students, in particular Year 7’s, as well as returning students to our library for 2024. The library team are enjoying meeting our students and watching as they learn that the library is an exciting place of discovery and a safe haven.

Our library is accessible to all students throughout the school day. We are open before school from 8:15am, at recess and lunchtimes as well as after school to 4:30pm Monday through to Thursday. In addition, students are reminded they are welcome to attend the Homework Club which runs in the library after school on Wednesday afternoons.

An important part of our library’s vision is to foster an ongoing love of reading and we offer many services to support this aim. As part of the library program, we provide a fun and successful Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge program every year.  All Year 7 and 8 students participate in the VPRC while older students are encouraged to speak with a library staff member if they would like to participate in the Challenge. Students who read regularly and who successfully complete the Challenge receive, not just the long-term benefits for educational outcomes, but also an invitation to attend a special celebratory lunch.

Our library fiction collection is an extensive collection of popular and interesting novels that caters and appeals to all abilities. We regularly purchase new and up-to-date books, and all our staff are available to recommend books for all reading abilities.

Book Club is a popular lunchtime activity which will be run during Terms 2 and 3. If your student is a keen reader, they may enjoy being part of this club and meet other like-minded students. For more information, please see a library team member.

If your student finds themselves without a book to read, they can access Wheeler’s eBooks and audiobooks via the Infiniti library management system https://tlsc.concordinfiniti.com/login or through the star icon on Compass.

In addition, we also have a good collection of games and puzzles for students to enjoy during recess and lunch. We regularly run interactive Kahoot.it games at lunchtime. In Week 3, the library celebrated all things Lunar New Year. In the Year of the Dragon, we organised a lantern making workshop, a fun Kahoot, a popular film, a dragon in literature scavenger hunt and, as always, a great selection of Lunar New Year inspired novels for students to borrow.

Our Library is a vibrant, inclusive, and crucial part of the learning community at Taylors Lakes Secondary College.  Our busy library provides an extensive range of print and digital resources that supports the learning and teaching goals of our school and regularly hosts events and library-related activities.

Please enjoy some of the photos taken at our Lunar New Year celebrations.
