As we approach the end of Term 1, I would like to congratulate our student cohort for the way in which they have approached the start of the school year. On reflection, the school climate and general calm throughout the campus has been really positive. The new year 7 students have settled in incredibly well and have added a real buzz in the yard. Our student representative group has formed and are constantly looking for ways to have an impact on the school community and to expand their leadership. Many students have been out of school on excursions, camps or representing the college for sports and music events. The staff feedback from all these activities regarding the way in which our students have conducted themselves, has been fantastic. I look forward to continuing to develop relationships and stronger partnerships with students, families and the broader school community as we move through to Term 2.

Learning Behaviour Updates:

Our most recent set of LBU’s have just been published and across the campus we had an overwhelming number (175 students) of LBU averages that were 3.5 or above. We know that when students demonstrate the appropriate learning behaviours regularly in class it gives them the best possible shot at getting the most out of their learning opportunities. I would like to congratulate the following students for scoring a perfect 4.0 for their most recent learning behaviour update and state how impressive this achievement is:

  • Lila K.
  • Scarlett M.
  • Corey R.
  • Reaksa L.
  • Charlotte P.
  • Alex F.

NAPLAN:

Over the past two weeks our Year 7 and Year 9 students have been engaged in NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy). I would like to extend a big thanks and well-done to all the students that participated in NAPLAN testing. The way in which they embraced the testing conditions, gave it their best shot a demonstrated our school pillars was really pleasing.

Student Wellbeing:

Students and families are reminded that we have a large student wellbeing support team onsite every day. The advocate office is a one stop shop for students to get what they need in order to be successful throughout the day. We encourage students to pop in and say hello or share any problems they may have that impact on their ability to learn or feel safe at school

During term 2 students will be encouraged to speak with Team Leaders, Advocates or the Wellbeing team if they need some support in getting extra uniform for the colder months. The Advocates are more than happy to help families that need support with uniform. Breakfast club will commence in term 2. Each Tuesday in the Language Center, students are welcome to pop in and enjoy some breakfast with their peers. Cereal, toast, and milo will be provided amongst other options. There will also be some Milo days during recess to warm people up as the days become colder.

End of Year Celebration:

On Wednesday we will bring all staff and students together to celebrate the end of term 1. During the assembly we will hear highlights from students at each year level, announce and acknowledge our new student leaders and then finish up with an Easter Egg hunt and a farewell from the team.

Thank-you and Happy Easter

I would just like to give all our parents and carers a big shout out for your continued support. I have felt very supported by the school community and really value and appreciate the partnerships that are formed between school and our families. On behalf of all the staff at Churchill Kurnai I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday break.
