STEM

Our focus this week is how important problem solving is within communities. How it can help improve efficiencies, support people with different needs and improve quality of life. Students will be presented with a problem that is impacting a fictional community. Using the design process, they will need to work as a team to help solve this problem and improve the outcomes for that community.

Visual Arts

Prep

Students will be finishing their Summer calendar picture, piecing all their created elements together. This will then be put aside until all seasons are completed the end of the year.

Grade 1 and 2

Students will be looking at the art element ‘Space’ and creating a negative-space bunny artwork in time for Easter. This project will take a few weeks to complete; this week they will create the background covering their page with geometric shapes using paint sticks in warm or cool colours.

Grade 3 and 4

Students will be drawing their image for the silo artwork they began last week. Their drawing must include elements that are uniquely Australian to link in with our CBL topic of 'Commmunity'.

Grade 5

Students will be finishing their colour and pattern detail on their ‘Super Hero Self’ portrait and beginning to think about which parts to tear up to then lay on top of their original photo.

Grade 6

Students will be finishing their clay rockpool and will begin to look at Australian landscape images for their upcoming textiles project of dry-felt needling.

Performing Arts

🎵 Prep

Students are continuing their learning on tempo (fast and slow). They will be also be experiencing and categorising the pitch of music/sounds as high or low. Students will explore the sounds/music through listening and movement. Throughout all of their learning they will continue practising the skill of keeping the beat.

🎤 Grade 1 and 2

Students are continuing to explore rhythm patterns which can be made using 'ti-ti' and 'ta' through a variety of songs and movements. They will also be introduced to 'zaa' (a rest) and apply this to the rhythms they make and read. Students will also continue to learn the words to 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' in Woiwurrung (the language of the Wurundjeri people). We will aim to have touched on all the words by the end of this week, as we focus on 'eyes, ears, mouth and nose'.

🎶 Grade 3 and 4

Students are continuing to use drama activities to explore the themes, characters and stories in two books. The tasks allow students to step into the shoes of different characters and consider their perspectives, decisions and actions. Through the experiences, students will unpack the question; 'What does friendship mean?', linking to our CBL Big Idea of 'Community'.

🎭 Grade 5 and 6

Students are continuing to explore physical theatre, focusing on how  they can use their bodies, gestures and movements to communicate to an audience. As a group, they will unpack and respond to the idea of 'community' and begin to create a short devised piece of physical theatre based on this. Tasks provide the chance for students to collaborate together as they offer ideas, and accept or build on the ideas of each other.

Auslan

Prep

Prep students will be participating in songs and role plays to learn how to sign ‘Good morning, how are you?’ and respond to that question with the signs: good; bad; happy; sad and tired.

Grade 1 and 2

Students will continue to review the signs for common items found in and around their classroom. They will also learn to ask their peers for specific objects by learning to sign the phrase, ‘Can I have…, please?’

Grade 3 and 4

Students will continue to learn and rehearse signing common phrases used in the classroom. They will play whole class and small group games to consolidate this understanding.

Grade 5 and 6

Students will review their understanding of frequently asked questions within the classroom. They will practise signing these common phrases by playing recognition games.
