🏫 Morning drop off

We are now halfway through Term 1. From this point onwards, we strongly request that parents do not enter the classroom in the morning.

The first 10 minutes between 8.50 - 9.00am are important for children to:

-Independently follow their morning unpacking routine

-Change their book pocket

-Settle into the day with their peers

If you need to speak to your child's teacher, please see them at the door as we are always there to greet the students as they enter the classroom.

🍎🥪 Food

Our students have four opportunities to eat during the day. Please make sure you send your child to school with plenty of food. It might be a good idea to put brain food ('mini bites') in a separate container for ease of choice, and so that they don't inadvertently eat their lunch during the 'recess' time, as this often leads to hungry tummies later in the day!

It is a good idea to include your child with the food options that are put in their lunch box, as this may lead to food being eaten happily, and not coming back home at the end of the day.

📚 Library

Prep A has library on Thursday, and Prep B and C have library on Friday.

You are welcome to keep the book at home for the week, and then remind your child to bring their book (in their library bag) to school on their library day.

Please note that students can only borrow if they have a library bag and have returned their book.

CURRICULUM

📚 Reading

Students will consolidate their understanding of character and setting through discussing different stories and completing related tasks.

They will use their knowledge of the sounds of 'SATPIN' to blend and decode CVC words (CVC = consonant / vowel / consonant eg. sat, tip, etc).

What can you do at home?

-Read to your child at bedtime. Ask them about the characters and setting in the story.

-Help your child read their take home book.

-Practise the Magic Words.

-Use the letters os 'SATPIN' to make CVC words and read them eg. nap, pit, sip, sat, tap, pan, etc.

🔡 Phonics

Students will learn about the letter 'n' and its sound. They will learn the cued articulation and brainstorm words that begin with 'n'.

Now they know the letters of 'SATPIN' they will decode CVC words and complete related activities.

What you can do at home?

-Ask your child to show you the cued articulation for 'n' and the sound it makes.

-Discuss words that start with 'n' and the words that contain this sound.

--Use the letters of 'SATPIN' to make CVC words and read them eg. nap, pit, sip, sat, tap, pan, etc.

📝 Writing

Students will focus on handwriting and holding their pencil correctly. They will copy and write a repetitive sentence, working on pencil pinch and putting spaces between words.

What can you do at home?

-Help your child to write their name in 'school' writing - a capital letter followed by lower case letters.

-Help your child to develop their pencil grip / pinch. See the images below as a guide.

🔢  Maths

Students will expand their thinking about pattern. They will create, describe and extend patterns using a varied range of materials, movements and drawings. They will also identify which part of the pattern is being repeated (happening over and over again). This week, there will be extra challenges like using multiple objects, using more than two colours and doubling items.

What can you do at home?

-Notice patterns in the environment around you. What can you create using the materials around you?!

-Continue to count collections with 1-1 counting.

🌏 CBL - Community

Students will continue to focus on their Prep community and think about the unique qualities that they bring to help make their classroom a special place.

They will complete a page for a class book, that will be sent home throughout the term.  It would be lovely to read it together to familiarise your child with their friends' names and their special qualities.
