Head of Sport Report

Commitment to sport is more than just showing up—whether it is at ISA carnivals or in the ISA sporting competition, it’s about giving your best effort, working towards personal improvement, and contributing to the success of the team. By dedicating ourselves to consistent training and actively participating in games, we build a foundation of teamwork, discipline, and resilience that translates not only on the field or court but in all areas of life.

With the winter sport competition just around the corner, attendance is key. Missing practice or games can leave gaps that affect both individual and team performance. It is important to recognize that every training session, every game, and every moment counts in honing skills and achieving goals.

In addition to commitment in performance, wearing the correct uniform at training and games is equally important. It is not just about looking the part—it reflects respect for the sport, the team, and the school. Proper attire signifies pride in representing BMGS and upholding the standards we have set as a community.

Let’s continue to embrace these values—commitment, respect, and dedication—so that we can achieve our best and represent BMGS with pride at every competition.

Congratulations

Basketball

On the 15th March BMGS had 3 teams compete in the ISA basketball finals.

Junior C

The Junior C team played a tightly contested match, with both teams remaining in single digits until halftime. The CCGS opposition proved to be a tough challenge, making it difficult for the BMGS girls to find scoring opportunities. However, in the final minutes, BMGS executed strong drives to the basket, capitalizing on layups and free throws. Their determination paid off, securing a hard-fought victory. Well done, girls!

Open C

33-17

The Open C's capped off an incredible season with an amazing victory over Barker. From the start, the girls brought the right attitude and were fully prepared for the game. They maintained the lead from start to finish. The team had exceptional teamwork, moving the ball efficiently and creating scoring opportunities. Their defense was really strong and forced the opposing team into key turnovers. I am beyond proud of the girls' effort in today’s game and their dedication throughout the entire season.

First V Boys

The First V boys, who had maintained an undefeated record throughout the season, faced one of their toughest challenges yet against SACS. From the opening tip-off, SACS came out strong, quickly establishing a 10-point lead that proved difficult to overcome. Unlike their early season matchup the team found themselves on the back foot, forced to play catch-up.

Despite the early setback, the team showed resilience and determination, tightening their defense and working hard to disrupt SACS' offensive rhythm. Every player contributed with relentless effort, contesting shots, pressuring ball handlers, and battling for rebounds. However, SACS proved deadly from beyond the arc, sinking crucial three-pointers that kept BMGS at bay each time they attempted to close the gap.

In the final minutes, BMGS fought to shift the momentum, pushing the pace and attacking the basket in an effort to break through SACS’ defensive structure. Though they managed to narrow the margin, SACS' outside shooting remained a decisive factor. Despite the loss, the team displayed immense effort and sportsmanship, and their undefeated streak leading up to this game is a testament to their skill and teamwork. They will no doubt take valuable lessons from this match as they continue to build on their impressive season. With the departure of this whole team from BMGS this year, I wish all the boys the very best and hope that they continue to play basketball when they leave school.

Inter Schools Mountain Biking - Thredbo

Two of our students, Xavier Stephens and Marlow Terry, represented BMGS at the Thredbo Interschools Mountain Biking event, competing against a highly skilled field of riders. Both performed admirably, finishing mid-table in a competitive lineup.

Unfortunately, Xavier encountered some bad luck, suffering a flat tyre while riding to the start line for the final event—the downhill race—which forced him to withdraw. Despite this setback, both riders embraced the challenge, enjoyed the experience, and showcased great sportsmanship and determination. They represented the school with pride, making the most of an exciting and demanding competition.

Basketball

Monty Darwin was selected in the ISA Seconds team and, due to an injury to a Firsts player, has earned a well-deserved promotion to the Firsts team. He made an immediate impact in the first game against GPS, playing a strong all-around game for ISA, working hard at both ends of the court. His next challenge will be against CAS, followed by a matchup with AICES. Congratulations, Monty, and best of luck in the upcoming games!

Netball

Olivia Harris was honored at the NSWCIS Presentation Day, receiving a prestigious Sporting Blue for her outstanding netball achievements in 2025. This recognition is a testament to her dedication, skill, and hard work on the court. Congratulations, Olivia! The entire BMGS community is incredibly proud of your accomplishments, and we look forward to following your continued success in netball.

ISA Swimming

The ISA Swimming Carnival took place last week, and a big thank you goes out to all those who attended and stepped up to fill races where possible. Unfortunately, last-minute withdrawals from senior students left several races unfilled, resulting in BMGS fielding a significantly smaller team than in previous years. It was disappointing to see key events go unattended, as every competitor plays a crucial role in the team’s overall performance.

Despite this setback, the swimmers who competed gave their best efforts, demonstrating great determination and school spirit. Their commitment was commendable, and their performances in the pool reflected their hard work and resilience. This event serves as a reminder of the importance of dedication when representing the school at this level, ensuring that every opportunity to compete is maximized.
