Around the Primary Classes

Early Learning Centre (ELC)
The start of each new year is the busiest time of the year in the Early Years. Everything is so new for everyone as we settle in to feeling happy and confident in the space.
In the ELC we have already learnt many poems and songs and several new dances. We are learning each others' names, how to share when playing and how to pack away when we have finished.
Last week we went on a shape hunt around the school; we were looking for circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. We have also been watching the progress of The Louisa Centre and saw beautiful trees being planted in the playground.
Other exciting moment we have had include making and floating boats, weaving with dried leaves, moulding with clay and drawing swirly patterns similar to Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night.
Kinder
Recently the Year 10 VET Child Studies students began their weekly visits to our classroom. This unique program provides invaluable hands-on experience for our Year 10 students, while offering our Kinder learners the chance to engage with the “Big Girls” of the College.
Every week, the Year 10 students facilitate a range of engaging learning activities, from arts and crafts, gross-motor development, interactive learning experiences, science investigations to cooperative play.
For our Kinder students, these visits are undoubtedly the highlight of their week. They absolutely love the opportunity to collaborate, learn, and laugh alongside their "Big Girl Friends," forming meaningful connections that bring smiles all around. We're so proud of our Year 10 students for their enthusiasm and dedication, and we're thrilled to see the positive impact they're having on our youngest learners!
Prep
In Prep, we have been learning about the life cycle of a sunflower. We have had different sized sunflowers in the classroom to observe. The girls completed a guided drawing based on their observations to represent a sunflower in bloom. Please scroll through our gallery of botanical delights.
Prep and Year One
Last week saw the beginning of our Nature Play program at Lambert Park. The Preps and Year 1 students ventured over together to explore, play, build and collaborate in the natural space. Nature Play is a wonderful experience for the girls with the following benefits:
- Improving coordination and gross motor skills
- Developing critical thinking skills
- Building resilience and creativity
- Opportunities to develop social skills including cooperation, leadership, communication, turn taking and problem solving.
- Confidence to try new things
- Learning to care for the natural environment.
The girls look forward to their fortnightly expeditions and can't wait to see how the space changes over the seasons.
Year 2
We have been loving our daily English and Maths routines. We have been working on being organised and can now complete many activities before recess. Every day we complete phonemic awareness, spalding cards, fluency pairs, handwriting, InitiaLit and writing. We also love our daily reviews in Maths and are whiteboard experts!
Year 3
Year 3 dove into understanding emotions this week with a lively game of "Emotional Charades."
Students brainstormed a wide range of feelings, then acted them out in pairs, imagining real-life scenarios. They didn't just stop at the acting; they also discussed how to offer support and kindness in those situations, building their empathy and understanding of others' feelings.
Year 5 Navy
Year 5 Navy are happy with their recent efforts in undertaking NAPLAN. There was a general feeling of satisfaction and pride in that they felt they performed as best they could. A few weeks ago, the students also lead a Primary assembly. They thoroughly enjoyed the responsibility of running the assembly. Now, as a class we are completing units and enjoying the final few weeks of Term 1 as a group.
Year 6 White
Year 6W students created beautiful Easter silhouette art crosses, reflecting the themes of Lent, faith, and renewal. Their artwork captures the spirit of reflection and new beginnings as we prepare for Easter.
