A Word from the Principal

Megan Richardson

Loving and compassionate God,

You created each of us in Your image, beautifully diverse yet united in Your love. On Harmony Day, we celebrate the richness of our cultures, the beauty of our differences, and the strength we find in unity.

Lord, open our hearts to embrace one another with kindness and respect. Teach us to listen with understanding, to speak with love, and to act with justice. May we build a community where every person feels valued, included, and safe.

We pray for peace in our College, our nation, and our world. Help us to be peacemakers, bringing Your light wherever there is division, and Your love wherever there is hurt.

May we always walk together, side by side, as one family in Christ.

We ask this in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

At Mount Carmel Catholic College, we take great pride in fostering a community built on respect, inclusion, and unity. Harmony Day, celebrated annually on March 21st, is a powerful reminder of the richness found in our diversity and the strength we gain when we embrace one another with open hearts.

The message of Harmony Day - "Everyone Belongs" - reflects the Gospel values of love, acceptance, and peace. As a Catholic community, we are called to live out these values by welcoming and celebrating people of all backgrounds, cultures, and faiths. Just as Jesus embraced all who came to Him, we, too, are invited to create a world where every person feels valued and respected.

Our school is blessed with students, staff, and families from many cultural backgrounds, each contributing a unique piece to our shared story. This diversity enriches our learning, deepens our understanding, and strengthens our bonds. It is through listening, sharing, and working together that we build a truly inclusive and compassionate community.

Harmony Day challenges us to go beyond words and take action - by showing kindness, standing against discrimination, and fostering genuine friendships with those who may be different from us. When we do this, we reflect the love of Christ and help shape a future where peace and unity prevail.

Let us all be mindful of our call to be peacemakers, bridge builders, and beacons of hope. May our school always be a place where everyone belongs, and may we continue to walk together in faith, love, and harmony.

"For my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations." — Isaiah 56:7

A Louisa Update

The landscaping has begun, the kitchen has been installed and the Louisa is ready for floor coverings! Much progress has been made with retaining walls flagging one side of the site, Fairbrother removing site services and the commencement of the outdoor play area for our students. Thank you to all families who have been impacted by footpath works, we appreciate your understanding. We hope to have our opening event dates published soon.

Arrival at school - Early and Late

A reminder that every minute and every day matters as we work together in partnership for your child’s education. Late arrivals may mean missing out on key pieces of information, time to organise, time for students to connect with each other, prayer and settling down for the start to learning. Lateness can cause anxiety as students try to fit in with where the class is at. If families need support to get their children to school on time, please reach out and we can provide support strategies.

We are also finding there are a few students arriving at school well before supervision times. Students should not be at school before 8.15am as there is no supervision before this time, teachers are preparing for learning at this time.

School Effectiveness Survey

The Tasmanian Catholic Education Office is conducting surveys with students, staff, and parents to set meaningful targets and enhance school effectiveness across the state. These surveys will be distributed to families this week as we collect valuable data to guide future planning, celebrate achievements, and identify areas for growth. Your time and feedback are greatly appreciated.
