Principal's Message

From the Desk of Kathy Nott - Term 1, Week 11

Good afternoon, Parents/Carers,

We have reached the last week of Term 1.  We have had an amazing start to the year and look forward to it continuing in Term 2.  I would like to wish all of our families a very Happy Easter and a safe and relaxing term break.  We look forward to seeing everyone return in Term 2.

Attendance

Our attendance rate at Werris Creek Public School in Term 1 has been outstanding.  33% of our students have had an attendance percentage of 95% and above.  76% of our students have had an attendance percentage of 90% and above.   We had 2 students, Telmie and Hailie on 100% attendance.  Congratulations Werris Creek Public School on an amazing result.

Farewell Mrs B

We bid farewell to Mrs B who will be leaving us at the end of this Term.  Mrs B has been a wonderful asset, and we will miss her bubbly personality around Werris Creek Public School.  We wish her all the best in her new role.

Behaviour Focus

Each week we focus on a particular behaviour to ensure our students know what is expected each and every day.  Those students who achieve the behaviour focuses receive over and above awards to fill their rewards chart.

Our behaviour focus for Week 11 is again Respectful-

We are learning to:

  • SAY NO - "I have the right to feel safe"!

We know we are successful when:

  • We have the right to say NO

  • No means NO

  • We ask permission and receive consent

  • We know when to stay away

  • We make people feel comfortable

Easter Hat Making & Easter Parade

It was great to see so many visitors at our annual Easter Hat Making afternoon yesterday. We invite all Parents/Carers and families to attend our Easter Hat Parade this Thursday, 10th April at 2:15pm on the middle terrace.  We look forward to seeing all of the children parading their creations.

Olympics Unleashed

Our school was lucky to receive a visit this morning from Joshua Katz (Olympian in Judo at the 2020 Tokyo & 2024 Paris Olympic Games). Joshua is part of the Olympics Unleashed program in conjunction with the Australian Olympic Committee who run a free program in schools.

The students learned about Joshua Katz's Olympic journey and how to build resilience, the importance of setting goals and how to find what they are passionate about.

Thank you to Joshua and the Australian Olympic Committee for a fantastic experience.

ANZAC Service

Due to ANZAC Day falling in the term break, we will be holding a small ceremony with our students and staff tomorrow morning to mark ANZAC Day.  This is an important time to teach our students about its significance and the sacrifice so many made so we can enjoy the freedoms we experience each day.

ANZAC March

This year ANZAC Day will fall in the Term Break. Werris Creek Public School will be marching at the Annual ANZAC March and Ceremony in Werris Creek on Friday, 25th April 2025.  We invite all of our students to join us in the March and 11am Service at the Cenetaph on Anzac Parade, in Werris Creek.  Students who wish to march are to meet our staff at the Old Butcher Shop on the corner of Coronation Avenue and Single Street at 10:45am dressed in full school sports uniform.

School Development Days

Please note that the first 2 days of Term 2 are School Development Days and are for staff only. Our students return on Wednesday, 30th April.

Turn Up Awards

To encourage our students to attend school every day we have introduced the "Turn Up" award.  Each day your child attends their name will be entered into the draw to receive a canteen voucher capped at $7.00.  A voucher will be issued each week to each class.  If your child attends 5 times in that week they have 5 entries.  If they attend two days in that week they have 2 entries.  Our winners for Week 6 are:

K/1B -            Summer

2/3O -            Haillie

4/5/6W -       Telmie

Congratulations, you will each receive a canteen voucher to enjoy a free lunch from the Canteen on Friday Term 2, Week 1.
