Welcome from the Cultural Room

Write it Right

This year, students in our Write it Right program have been taking their learning beyond the classroom, engaging in a series of cultural excursions and literacy experiences. Through these hands-on activities, students have been deepening their understanding of culture while strengthening their literacy skills.

As part of the program, students have explored Country on a bush walk along the Yuelarbah Walking Track, visited Baiame Cave with Uncle Warren to learn about Aboriginal cave artwork, and harvested Coolamon's directly from the tree with Aunty Dawn, Nick and Mr Latta. We were also fortunate to have Uncle Warren visit our school to share his cultural knowledge and teach the students about Aboriginal traditions and stories.

Each excursion has been followed by literacy lessons designed to help students reflect on their experiences and develop their writing skills. These rich, real-world learning opportunities have helped bring language and culture to life.

We would like to sincerely thank Aunty Dawn and Nick for guiding us on Country and making these excursions possible and thank Uncle Warren and Mrs Daniels for generously sharing their time and knowledge with our students. Most of all, we’d like to congratulate our students for their respectful behaviour, active participation, and enthusiasm throughout the program. Well done, everyone!

Thank You
