Year 9 Take on the Trees – Adventure, Teamwork and Fun at TreeTops Excursion

In Term 1, our Year 9 students took part in an exciting and energetic excursion to TreeTops Adventure Park on the Central Coast. The day was filled with laughter, challenge, and camaraderie as students tackled the high ropes courses and explored the colourful, bouncy world of NetWorld.

The excursion offered more than just a day out – it was a fantastic opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zones, support each other, and develop essential skills in teamwork, problem solving, and communication. From navigating swinging bridges to ziplining through the treetops, every activity encouraged students to build trust and resilience while having a whole lot of fun.

It was wonderful to see students cheering each other on, overcoming fears, and working together to conquer the different elements of the course. The day brought plenty of smiles, a few sore muscles, and a stronger sense of connection among peers.

A huge thank you to the staff who supported the excursion and to TreeTops for providing such a safe and enjoyable experience. We’re incredibly proud of the way our students represented the school and embraced the adventure with such enthusiasm!

Year 9 Reminder - Bring your Device (BYOD) to LAW (Leraning and Wellbeing)

A friendly reminder to all students and families that bringing a charged device to school each day supports learning across all subjects. Access to a device allows students to engage with digital tools, complete online research, and participate in interactive lessons more effectively.

We encourage all students to bring their own laptop or tablet as part of our BYOD program, helping them stay organised, independent, and ready to learn.

Thank you for your ongoing support in preparing students for success in a digital learning environment!

Wheelchair Basketball and Tenpin Bowling

In term 1 we were sporty in the Learning and Wellbeing faculty. In week 10 we had Rick from Wheelchair Sports give 7R an opportunity to experience Wheelchair basketball. Rick gave a presentation on disability awareness and road safety. The presentation was followed by a game of Wheelchair Basketball played by the students. This provided the students with a chance to experience something new, as well as giving them an idea of what it is like to be in a wheelchair.

Also In week 10, Spencer Clarke competed at the 2025 Tenpin Bowling Tournament for Students with Disability selection trials. Students from across the region competed in the tournament. Competitors played 2 games of tenpin bowling to show off their skills. Spencer has qualified for the State tournament in Sydney, week 6 of term 2. Good luck Spencer.

Joshua Gunton - Year 9 - International Soccer Superstar

Joshua Gunton (Josh) was selected to participate in the Barça Academy Clinic ’25 which was held in Barcelona, Spain in March 2025.

Josh has been a passionate and hard-working football (soccer) player since he was young, and evidence of this was Josh’s participation in a weeklong Barça Academy Camp held in Newcastle University. Throughout the Barça Academy Camps, Barça Academy coaches were selecting the players that will have the opportunity to go to Barcelona and train in Barça Facilities, like professional players. They were using two criteria for this selection: football skills and FC Barcelona Values.

Josh was so impressive in terms of football abilities and behaviour that he was selected from hundreds of players in Australia to participate in the Barça Academy Clinic '25. Josh flew to Spain with his father, where he spent two weeks developing skills, training and playing under the guise of a ‘professional soccer player’.

This experience gave Josh the opportunity to learn from the best coaches in Barcelona but also discover the beautiful city and culture of Barcelona. He toured Camp Nou and held the European Champions League trophy, trained at La Masia, as well as, meeting 1st team players and staff and visited sites such as Sagrada Familia. FGHS congratulates Josh and this major achievement, no doubt there are big things in stall for Josh and his future football career.
