Discovery Evening - a chance to show off the College’s greatest assets - your kids.

Last week the Campus opened its doors to families of students considering St Peter’s College for their young person. Our aptly named ‘Discovery Evening’ allows prospective families to receive a personalised tour of the campus with two of our amazing volunteer Campus Ambassadors. The tour is one of discovering what St Peter's offers with 12 different stations each demonstrating the type of activities students might participate in during their St Peter’s College experience. There were Science experiments, Music performances, Art exhibitions, PE activities, Language presentations, and tours of Campus features such as the Technology area, the Terry Feely Learning Centre and several other important locations.

As I moved around with some of the groups I was in awe of the impressive array of opportunities that are afforded to students who attend our College. What was even more impressive, and something commented on by many of our visitors, was the confidence, positivity and genuine pride in their school of the nearly 100 students who volunteered their time to lead presentations or take tours. These students, your sons and daughters, once again showed what a credit they are to themselves, to you and to their school. As teachers, we are very lucky to work with such fantastic young people - I know from friends in other schools that not every teacher has this same experience.

Uniform blitz for Term 2

A new term sees another opportunity to RESET the uniform expectations of the College - especially as we go through the transition to the winter Uniform over the first two weeks of Term 2. [Students are free to wear either Winter or Summer uniform (but not a combination of the two) up until May 1 at which point all students will be in their Winter uniform.

The College Winter Uniform includes dress pants (not the black stretch pants that are creeping in) a Blazer and a College tie for both male and female students with female students also having the opportunity for a winter skirt.

It is a beautiful uniform when worn correctly as we saw at the Discovery Evening and while education, faith and service will always be our College pillars, I feel that there is something in the adage that ‘clothes maketh the person’ - meaning the better we present, the better our mindset to perform.

So parents and guardians, expect the odd grumbling young person coming home from school having served a yard clean-up community service task, should they decide (or forget) to wear that uniform as we all know it can be worn. The best support you can be as parents is to avoid the pressure coming from your sons and daughters to write some lame explanation as to why they cannot wear the College uniform correctly. With the allowance of Sports uniforms to be worn for PE days, Pastoral days and now for those competing in an SIS sports team, there is no excuse as to why the uniform cannot be worn with pride on the days they are set to wear it to and from school. We thank you for your support of us in maintaining this high expectation.

I hope everyone enjoys a holy Easter Week. In our Catholic tradition, this is a time of forgiveness and rebirth and so a great chance to recalibrate priorities for the months ahead.
