FRENCH
Prep:
The Prep students have learned all the colours in French. We have done a final revision with a game of memory cards and they were assessed this week.
Grade 1/2L:
Now that most students can spell numbers 1 to 10 and can count to 20, we are ready to start our new topic, body parts.
- Grades 2/3 and 3/4:
We are continuing our inquiry about French prehistoric sites and are learning lots of new words related to this topic. Last week, we played a miming game to start memorising the new list. The students had a lot of fun, so this is an activity we will repeat once in a while when we start a new topic.
Can you guess which French word they were miming? Here is the list to choose from:
- Grades 5/6:
The students have finished drawing and labelling their maps of France. They have just learned a new grammar rule (how to translate 'the most', according to the gender of the noun). Next term, they will use this rule to describe their maps with full sentences.
The Arts
Much work has been going on behind the scenes in order to prepare for the teaching of our Whole School Production in September. Auditions have been held, and we have announced a fabulous cast of Grade 5-6 students as our leads. Congratulations!
A notice will come home this week describing some easy-to-find costume items that families will need to supply. It's going to be a very exciting and busy couple of terms.
Visual Arts
All students have been exploring Indigenous and natural art tis term. Junior school students have been making Rainbow Serpents and frogs to tie in with their unit on Dreamtime stories. Grade 3-4 have been inspired by bark paintings and art using natural materials. In grade 5-6, we have been exploring story-telling through art and music, as inspired by Aboriginal Songlines.
Kitchen/Garden
Fiona Phillips has been a volunteer in our SAKG program for almost 15 years while her children attended our school. Last week marked the end of an era as Fiona's youngest child Olivia, had her last scheduled kitchen class. We would like to send a big thank you to Fiona for her many years of dedicated assistance. Her help has been invaluabe and we will miss her smiling face in the kitchen.
5/6A enjoyed their last cooking class of the term last week. They made some delicious carrot/coriander dip with foccacias, carrot muffins with garlic butter and lemon/rhubarb muffins. It has been wonderful cooking with you this term 5/6A.
Physical Education
During Harmony Week the students learned about the origin of various sporting activities, such as hula hoops, skipping ropes and frisbees. They enjoyed investigating how they work and demonstrating their skills.
Students from 3-6 were lucky enough to take part in a Q&A session with four members of the Hawthorn Football club, James Blanck (#36), Changkuoth Jiath (#9), Jaime Uhr-Henry (#43) and Sam Frost (#8).
