Prep News

IMPORTANT: It is the Preps turn to present at Assembly on FRIDAY THE 30TH MAY (Week 6) at 3:00 All Prep parents, grandparents and special people are most welcome to attend.
The Preps have had another busy fortnight with their learning and many extra-curricular activities.
In reading we have been learning how to flip sounds to help us decode words. We now know that a, e, i, o, u and sometimes Y, soft C and soft G can all flip to make a different sound. This week we have been focusing on the power of "SUPER E" at the end of words like "bike" (super e jumps over the tall building and makes the vowel say its name).
We have also discovered "SILLY E" at the end of words. (silly e does nothing at all), like horse, little.
Our Sentence writing continues to be very impressive. Next week we will begin our unit of how to write a personal recount.
The Preps had a very successful and impressive Fun run, running with their Grade 6 buddies.
We also enjoyed writing a recipe and cooking some choco balls as part of our Mothers day presents. The Preps loved spoiling their Mums rotten by pampering them with a massage, nails, jewellery and card making. The photo booth was also a big hit!!
In Maths, we have been learning to add numbers together using many addition strategies. We have learnt to: Draw it, tally marks, use fingers and concrete material. We are now focused on the important strategy of "Counting On."
The Preps have also enjoyed having some playtime on the new playground.
Hope you have a great weekend,
Jen and Sheree
