Here’s some great news that affirms your choice of a Catholic education for your children.

Innovative research using the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Survey data has found that people who attended Catholic schools are likely to see lifelong benefits in employment status, general health and life satisfaction.

The research found that on average, there are both personal and community benefits of Catholic schooling. People who attended Catholic schools are on average more likely to be employed, and to earn higher wages, than government school attendees. The average wage difference ranges between four per cent to 11 per cent. In addition, Catholic school attendees are more likely to work in an industry or sector that directly benefits the public and were more likely to donate to charity. The report also found that Catholic school attendance had a positive average impact on personal health and life satisfaction scores. These findings were statistically significant and include adjustments to the data to isolate the impact of attendance at a Catholic school from other individual and family characteristics and influences.

This study reinforces what Catholic educators have long known: that a faith-based education grounded in Gospel values not only prepares students for academic success, but also forms compassionate, community-minded individuals equipped to thrive in all areas of life.

Honouring ANZAC Day

Allison and some of our HR students gathered for our local ANZAC Day service. It was a special opportunity to pause, reflect and pray for those who served and sacrificed. Last week, our school came together to commemorate ANZAC Day with a moving and respectful ceremony; a moment of reflection and gratitude that was made possible through the leadership of our Year 5/6 students and Allison.

Our students took great care in presenting a ceremony that honoured the spirit of the ANZACs. With respect, they helped the school community to pause and remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served our country.

I thank Allison for helping Holy Rosary students honour ANZAC Day in a thoughtful and dignified way.

Current Family Enrolments Due This Wednesday 7 May!

A friendly reminder to all our current families to please have your enrolment applications submitted by Wednesday. This allows us to begin scheduling your Parent and Child Interviews and helps us finalise our enrolment acceptances for new families.

We’re also currently conducting school tours for new families. If you have friends or family who may be considering joining our wonderful school community, please let them know that now is the perfect time to come and see us in action!

Say Cheese

School photos will be taken on Wednesday 7 May. Children are expected to wear their full summer academic uniform including black school shoes and navy or white socks without logos. Navy, sky blue or white hair ribbons should be worn for hair shoulder length and longer. The only jewellery to be worn are studs, sleepers and watches. Nail polish must not be worn. Year 3-6 children will need to bring runners to change into for their P.E. lesson. Year 6 children will have a Graduation Photo on the adventure playground and will wear their rugby tops. All students will be in a class photo and an individual photo, and there will be an opportunity for children to have photos with siblings. Further details from the photographer regarding payment and ordering will be sent home.

Cross Country

Best of luck to students competing in the District Cross Country this Friday. We’re proud of your dedication and determination. Run strong, support one another, and enjoy the experience.

Honouring Mums

We warmly invite all mums and mother figures in our school community to join us for a special Mother’s Day Breakfast on Friday 9 May. Come and enjoy coffee and pastries as we take a moment to honour and celebrate the wonderful women in our lives.

Time: From 7:45am-9:00am. Prayer to follow.

Location: School grounds (please note: our Mother’s Day Prayer will be held in the school hall this year as the church will be in use for Mass)

This event is especially for mums and mother figures. The coffee van will be serving tea and coffee for adults, while students may enjoy a warm milo organised by the staff. Delicious pastries will be reserved for our special guests as we take this time to acknowledge and appreciate all that you do.

Students will be reminded that this breakfast is a time to honour their mums, and the treats are especially for them. We look forward to sharing this morning with you.

Mother’s Day Cake Stall – How You Can Help!

Our much loved Mother’s Day Cake Stall is just around the corner, and we’d love your support. There are three great ways you can get involved:

Calling all bakers! We’re looking for cakes, slices, biscuits, preserves, and other homemade goodies from our talented school community.
Volunteer your time. It’s a fun way to meet other parents—help us set up, sell on the day, or pack up afterwards.
Come and buy! The HR cake stall is always a popular event in the Kensington community. Treat yourself (or someone special) to something sweet.

National Walk Safely to School Day: Friday 16 May

Now in its 26th year, the annual campaign encourages all primary school children, their parents and carers to walk safely and regularly to school. Championed by the Pedestrian Council Australia, the initiative aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking or alternative active transport (especially to and from school) can provide for the long term well-being of our children, not just on 16 May, but every day. Apart from the physical benefits, regular walking (or similar) also has a favourable impact on children's cognitive and academic performance. We have participated in this initiative for many years and 2025 is no exception. So grab your scooter, walking shoes or bikes and join in the fun!

Term Overviews

Term Overviews will be reinstated this term. These overviews are designed to provide parents with a clear understanding of what students will be learning across all curriculum areas throughout the term. They will also include suggestions for home-based activities to help reinforce classroom learning, supporting parents in actively engaging with their child’s education. Our goal is to distribute the Term Overviews to families via email by the end of Week 3. Parents should note that these overviews will replace the Curriculum Page in the newsletter.

Each Term Overview will include:

teacher names and their email addresses, and key dates or events
a weekly timetable
curriculum overviews and key learning outcomes for each subject area, including:
- English (reading, writing, listening and speaking)
- Mathematics
- Inquiry
- Religious Education (RE)
- Social and Emotional Learning, including Respectful Relationships
a summary of learning in each specialist subject: Music, STEM, Japanese, The Arts and Physical Education (Weeks 1-4)
a selection of online resources, game ideas, and independent activities that can be completed at home.

MOTHER'S DAY CAKE STALL

Our annual Holy Rosary Mother’s Day Cake Stall will be held on Saturday 10th May 9am-12pm at Bubba Pizza Kensington!

We are asking any Dads, Mums, Grandparents, Nannies etc to help by contributing cakes, slices, biscuits and other sweet treats, or preserves such as jams, curds, sauces, relishes, pickles, tomato passata and pesto.

If baking or preserving is not your thing you can still help with really easy no-bake recipes or even lolly bags

All packaging items and instructions are supplied and can be collected at school pick-up from Monday 5th to Friday 9th May.

In past years we have raised an amazing $5,000 which was used to purchase supplies to enrich our school programs!

We will also require volunteer roles in the lead up and on the day.
