Our fortnightly focus has been: Resilience - I will use strategies to control my emotions.

Staying calm and in control helps students to learn and play happily with others. This is important because it helps you to make good choices, solve problems, and be a kind friend. Here are some strategies you can use inside and outside of the classroom and at school or at home:

🤚 Movement Strategies

  • Stretching: Reach up high, touch your toes, or do slow shoulder rolls.

  • Shake it out: Gently shake your hands, arms, and legs to release tension.

💭 Mindfulness & Thinking Strategies

  • Count to 10 slowly (or backwards).

  • Name 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, 1 you can taste (grounding technique).

🧸 Sensory or Comfort Strategies

  • Use a fidget tool (e.g., stress ball, sensory putty).

  • Hold a comfort item like a stuffed toy or smooth stone.

  • Drink water or take a snack break (if allowed).

✍️ Creative Strategies

  • Draw how you feel.

  • Color in a calming coloring sheet or mandala.

  • Write or talk about your feelings.
