Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

During enrolment interviews, parents often ask about bullying. This is an example of how I respond.

"At Holy Family, we take bullying very seriously. Our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework is designed to create a safe and supportive environment for all students. We teach and reinforce positive behaviours, ensuring that students understand the importance of being respectful, responsible, and active learners. Additionally, our approach is complemented by the Leader in Me program, which focuses on developing leadership and life skills in every student. Together, these programs help us foster a culture of respect and empowerment, significantly reducing instances of bullying and ensuring that every child feels safe and valued."

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) at Holy Family is a proactive approach designed to foster a safe and supportive learning environment. The program emphasizes teaching, promoting, and encouraging positive behaviours among students. The core principles of PBL at Holy Family are encapsulated in three school rules: Respectful, Responsible, Learners

What does PBL look like at Holy Family?

PBL involves clear expectations and consistent teaching of appropriate behaviours. Students are taught to be respectful, responsible, and active learners. Visual aids and regular reinforcement help students internalise these behaviours. Each week the PBL and Leader In Me focus is introduced on Monday mornings and reinforced by the SRC team at the fortnightly whole school assembly.

Importance of PBL

PBL is crucial because it creates a positive school culture where students feel safe and supported. It enhances social competence and academic performance by reducing behavioural issues and maximizing learning time.

What is the connection with Steve Covey's Leader In Me Program?

The Leader in Me program, inspired by Stephen Covey's principles, complements PBL by focusing on leadership and life skills. It aims to develop the whole child by teaching leadership to every student, creating a culture of student empowerment, and aligning systems to drive academic results. Both programs share a common goal of fostering a positive, supportive, and empowering school environment. They work together to build students' social-emotional skills, leadership qualities, and academic success.

Why do we have a Wellbeing Week each term?

Wellbeing Week provides dedicated time to focus on mental and emotional health, helping students develop resilience and coping strategies. By incorporating events like Friendship Day and parent workshops, Wellbeing Week helps students build and maintain healthy relationships. These activities teach essential social skills and promote a sense of community and belonging.

Research shows that student wellbeing is closely linked to academic performance. When students feel safe, connected, and supported, they are more likely to be active participants in their learning and achieve better educational outcomes. Wellbeing Week, along with programs like PBL, Leader In Me and Friendology, helps establish a consistent and positive school culture. It sets high expectations for behaviour and fosters an environment where students feel valued and respected.

Second hand uniform shop

We are in desperate need of a few parents to help organise our second-hand uniform shop.  It is unfortunately in total disarray which is not an image we want to project to future parents looking for uniforms for their children.  If anyone has 10 minutes or half an hour before or after drop off and pick up to help get it into some semblance of order we would be so grateful.   Please come in and chat to the office staff or myself if you can assist.  Thanking you in advance.

Kindest regards,

Pauline Dinale - Principal
