On Wednesday the 7th of May we had 29 students travel to the Werribee Racecourse to compete in the Tarneit District Cross-Country. Students were tasked with running a 2km or 3km running race against students from other schools around the Tarneit area.

The day was quite a success in spite of the wet and windy weather, with all Wimba PS students finishing the race. We additionally had three students finish in the top 10 for their age group meaning they now advance to the Wyndham Division Final.

Congratulations and good luck to those students!

Foundation to Grade 2 in PE

For Term 2, our F-2 students will be beginning to focus on Object Control FMS. These are skills involved with controlling an object in a sport, which is typically a ball. They started the term by practicing their throwing and catching skills. This has included both the overarm and underarm throw. Students have practiced these skills in isolation and through various games. Later in the term, students will then move on to learning about both passing and bouncing a basketball.

Grade 3 to 6 in PE

For Term 2, our 3-6 students will be learning about invasion sports. An invasion sport involves attempting to score a goal against the other team, while trying to stop the other team scoring a goal. Examples include Soccer, Basketball and Netball. The focus will be on both the skills required for the sport along with the teamwork and strategies essential to being successful. To begin the term we have been focusing on Netball and will be moving on to learning about Touch AFL later on.
