What are we learning in the Art Room?
Foundation
Foundation students are learning about the element of Shape. They are exploring how artists use geometric shapes in their work. They are looking at artworks to identify the shapes they can see and incorporate shapes into their own artworks.ย Students are learning how to make a collage by layering different shapes together. They are creating some amazing, colourful robots to demonstrate their learning.
Year 1 & 2
Year 1 & 2 students have been learning about landscapes. They are using warm colours (red, orange and yellow) to paint the sunset and cool colours (blue, purple and green) to paint the mountains. Students are learning how to mix different colours together to create new colours and are using white paint to create tints.
Year 3 & 4
The Year 3 & 4 students are also focusing on landscapes. They are learning about monochromatic colours. ย Monochromatic means a colour scheme that is based on a single colour, or hue. The other colours within the colour scheme are all light and dark variations of that hue. Students are learning how to make a range of tints and shades by mixing different quantities of white and black paint. They are creating the illusion of depth within their paintings by using the lightest tint in the background and the darkest shade in the foreground. Next students will learn how to paint tree silhouettes in the foreground using texture brushes.
Year 5 & 6
The Year 5 & 6 students are learning about pixel art. Pixel art isย an art form where images are created by joining individual pixels, resulting in a blocky or grid-like appearance reminiscent of early video games and computer graphics. Students had fun making a self-portrait in a pixel art style. They are now exploring mosaics and learning about the history of this amazing art form. They will be using mosaics to create their own retro style computer game characters inspired by the French artist Invader.
